Gladion

Gladion is a young boy with light blonde hair and green eyes. His hair is shaved on the sides with a ripped design carved into it, with long tousled bangs that cover his right eye. He wears a gray hooded shirt with a red slash resembling a scar on it, a black undershirt with ripped sleeves, ripped black pants and red shoes with gray soles and black laces. He also has a red rectangular bag around his waist. He is 16 years old

Gladion has a very serious, determined, and smart disposition. He is shown to be very strong willed, as he constantly strives to make his Pokémon strong no matter what. Gladion can be impatient, temperamental, and frequently gets annoyed by Hau's excitable and fun-loving nature. He also seems to be quite self-critical, as seen when he loses a battle. Although he appears to have a tough exterior, it is eventually revealed that he is actually quite caring and always thinks of the well-being of Pokémon, and he cares about his sister Lillie deeply as well. He also cares for his Pokémon Type: Null, whom he rescued from the Aether Foundation and sought to free it from its metal restraint

His English and Japanese names, Gladion and Gurajio respectively, both come from the "gladiolus" flower. The flower is also sometimes referred to as the "sword lily", possibly connecting his name with his sister Lillie, who is also named after lilies

Two years before Sun and Moon take place, Gladion escaped Aether Paradise with one of the three Type: Null, wanting to free it from its metal restraint and unlock its true power so he could stop his mother from letting the Ultra Beasts destroy Alola.

At some point, Gladion joined Team Skull in order to get stronger. However, as he never really cared for Team Skull's affairs, he was never considered a real member of the team by the rest of the Grunts.

Gladion initially appears hostile, but after the player character joins to defeat Lusamine, Gladion becomes more open, and is even impressed by the player character's strategies. In the post-game, he decides to give them one of the two remaining Type: Null. Gladion is the son of Lusamine and Mohn, and the older brother of Lillie. During his younger years, he lived with his family in their mansion in Hau'oli City, even after his father's disappearance. At some point, he found an injured Eevee, who later became his Pokémon.

During a visit to Aether Paradise, Gladion, while looking for Lillie, stumbled across Faba's experiment of opening an Ultra Wormhole. He was frozen in fear when he witnessed Lillie getting attacked by a Nihilego until she was rescued by a Type: Null. As he was unable to do anything, Gladion vowed to get stronger and defeat every Ultra Beast to protect Lillie. Believing Lusamine to know about the incident and Type: Null's creation, Gladion distanced himself from his family and eventually embarked on a journey, taking Type: Null with him because of Faba's mistreatment.

Gladion is a trainer from the Alola region. He worked with his mother Samina at the Aether Foundation. Over time, he realized that his mother's obsession with bringing the ultra creatures to this world could be a great danger to the Alola region. For this reason, he left the foundation, telling only Lara (Wicke) of his departure. Before leaving, he stole one of the three Type: Null that were created to be a weapon against the ultra creatures. Since then, Gladio has set out on a journey to become strong. His goal now is to stop his mother and free Type: Null from the helmet that imprisons him. Gladio is somewhat impatient and tends to act on impulse, without listening to others. He blamed himself for Lily being traumatized by touching Pokémon, which is why he distanced himself from her for a long time. He managed to evolve Type: Null into Silvally, freeing it from its helmet. He developed a rivalry with Ash, being his greatest opponent in the Alola League, but ended up losing to him in the finals. He adopted Zoroark, his father's lost Pokémon. He set out with his family in search of his missing father. When he found him, he adopted the Nihilego that took care of his father as his own Pokémon. This Nihilego is shiny and is called Liliana, just like her sister.

Gladion is the only Trainer in the anime with multiple Pokémon who keeps all of them in non-standard Poké Balls. Gladion is the only rival in the anime to be a relative of a main character. Gladion is Ash's first main rival to own a Legendary Pokémon. With the capture of Lillie, Gladion is: Ash's first main rival to have caught a Pokémon onscreen outside of the series they debuted in. Ash's only main rival to have a Shiny Pokémon. The only non-main character in the anime to have caught an Ultra Beast. Currently the only Trainer in the anime to own an Ultra Beast. Gladion is the only one of Ash's main rivals to not own any first partner Pokémon from the generation his debut series is based on. In promotional material for the Manalo Conference, Gladion was given the title of (Japanese: 蒼き月の貴公子 Young noble of the blue moon).
