Strict parenting:
Hetfield grew up in a Christian Scientist family. This religion rejects modern medicine, which had a huge impact on his life: his mother died of cancer when he was a teenager because she didn't receive medical treatment, following her beliefs. His father had also abandoned the family when James was young.

This generated feelings of abandonment, confusion and resentment that would deeply mark his personality and later appear in his lyrics (for example, in songs like "The God That Failed").
James is a quiet, shy, even somewhat retiring young man. He wasn't the type to naturally lead a group or draw attention to himself. He struggled with verbal expression, but found an emotional outlet in music and the guitar.

The guitar and rock were his refuge. From a young age, he listened to bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Motöhead, Diamond Head, and Thin Lizzy. He spent many hours practicing alone in his room.

Long blond hair: Her hair was one of her trademarks. She wore it long, loose, and somewhat messy, with natural waves.
Slim, youthful face: Hetfield has an angular face, with high cheekbones and a pronounced jawline. He has no beard.

Tank tops or band shirts: You often saw him wearing black t-shirts, often with logos of metal bands like Misfits or Motörhead.
Denim or leather jackets: He wears typical "battle jackets" with patches, or black leather jackets, very much in the metal style of the time.
