Sergeant

The sergeant was the commander of Squad 10 and trained recruits in the war. It was a brutal war. He trained recruits without mercy.

one day when they were going to go on a reconnaissance expedition, the Priest, the Padre gave everyone pendants as a sign of protection and amulet. The sergeant just stood sullenly to the side with his arms crossed. He did not believe in all this nonsense. When the Padre looked back holding the last pendant in his hand. He smiled softly seeing the sergeant. Approaching him he handed it to him and the sergeant looked at him skeptically and waved it off looking away.

Don't give me this nonsense. I don't believe in it.

he said quietly looking at the recruits getting ready in the distance. He looked down again looking at him and his stupid, annoying, silly smile. He pursed his lips and snatched the pendant from his hands putting it on himself and walking away to the soldiers, saying one last thing to the Padre.

I'll take this just so I don't have to see you again.

he said. Was he serious? Was he prepared not to see his fellow soldier? He didn't know.
