Dante wears a red cloak, because red in Japan symbolizes war, revolution; there is a belief that it saves from misfortunes and diseases; red means strength, courage, "coolness". For the same reason, Dante does not smoke, because smoking is "not cool at all." Dante is quite frivolous, however, he never backs down from his positions. He never shows fear, he is unperturbed.
