The aqours

Chika is the second year student at Uranohoshi Girls' High School who launched Aqours. She is the youngest of three sisters and comes from a family with a ryokan known for its open-air, ocean-view hot springs. Chika's elder sisters are Shima and Mito. According to magazine material, her sisters are also fans of μ's, though this does not seem to have been retained in the anime adaptation. They also own a large dog named Shiitake. Chika is very energetic, goofy, sociable and has a very strong sense of perseverance. The latter point is especially notable, as it is shown multiple times. Her positive, can-do attitude gradually begins to affect everyone around her. Her energetic and perseverant nature also makes her rather impatient and easy to tease about giving up, only to make her even more perseverant on achieving her goal. Due to her usual positive nature, however, she tends to hide her more sensitive side, and tries hard not to cry when she is sad or frustrated, as she feels it would drag down others' morale if they were to see her feeling sad. Chika heavily dislikes when her friends get into confrontations she deems petty, being one of the very few things that can anger her. Chika has a slim figure. She has bright orange hair that reaches her shoulders, which she ties into three small braids on the left side and ornates with a three-leaf clover hair pin on the right side. Her eyes are pink. The winter clothes she wears are a long yellow scarf, a tan orange coat, light yellow winter gloves, black leggings, bright yellow earmuffs with a lemon style, a optional orange yellow winter hat that covers her face with mouth and eye holes, and black and pink boots with white fur.

Riko is a second year transfer student from Otonokizaka High School, who joined Uranohoshi after moving from Akihabara, Tokyo. When Riko lived in Tokyo, she used to play the piano, practicing in the same room as former student. Riko is a reserved, kind, polite and modest girl who likes indoor activities, acting as a foil to her friends, the more energetic Chika and You. She is rather shy, but is nevertheless affable and friendly. However, while she is generally quite levelheaded, calm and mature, she often flies into a panic when under pressure, jumping to conclusions and making mistakes. Because of this, and a previous incident on which she failed to play the piano in front of a live audience, she doesn't think she's special, and doesn't want to become a school idol. However, her friend Chika drags her into it, in the hopes this would inspire her to keep playing the piano. Riko can also be quite playful and dorky, this is especially seen with Chika, an example being when she copies Chika's "normal monster" act to help Chika. Her talents are playing the piano and viola, she is also the composer for Aqours. Riko has a slim figure. She has burgundy hair that she ties into a half ponytail, wears two hairclips in her hair and has gold-colored eyes. The winter clothes she wears are a burgundy winter coat, beige snow pants, light pink scarf, light pink winter gloves, and beige boots with dark gray fur inside it.

Kanan is a third year student living on the offshore island of Awashima with her grandfather, who runs a diving shop there. She had a hard time attending classes as she must take care of the shop while her father recovers from a fractured bone. Breezily mature, Kanan rarely sweats the details and usually maintains a calm, cool and even stoic demeanor. Though she may seem a bit bland at first, she loves sports and nature, claiming that she is happy every day just by being able to see the dazzling sun, the blue skies and the sea. She isn't as talkative as her fellow third years, speaking the least of them in the anime, but is nevertheless friendly and laid-back. Kanan is a very kind, warm-hearted and altruistic individual. She deeply cares for her friends, being very supportive and often putting their needs above her own, going to great lengths to ensure they get what she thinks is best for them. However, due to this, Kanan can fail to realize the others' feelings the same way she does, and she will go to the same lengths to hide the truth if it will hurt the person. Although Kanan is intelligent and level-headed, she doesn't get very good grades. This is due to her poor attendance at school due to the fact she must help her family with work; with that said, it's also seen she doesn't like reading and easily gets tired of it. She is talented in diving and ship handling, likely from being brought up in a diving-gear shop. Kanan has an athletic figure. She has long dark blue hair that she ties up into a high ponytail and purple eyes. She's often considered to be physically very attractive. The winter clothes she wears are a thick dark cyan winter coat, black leggings, light green and lime striped scarf, lime and dark cyan earmuffs, dark cyan winter boots with grey fur inside it, and light green and lime striped winter gloves with a dark cyan pattern.

Dia is a third year student who is the president of the student council, and is the older sister of Ruby Kurosawa, who she shares a strong bond with. She is from an old family involved in fishing management whose name is well-known around the area. The Kurosawa family also owns a number of companies including real estate, entertainment, human resources and restaurant management. Dia is a very refined, polite and mature young woman who speaks in a formal style of Japanese, regarding all of her friends with politeness by referring to each of them as "-san", and usually ending her phrases with "-desu wa." Strict, hardworking, and a bit of a perfectionist, she dislikes it when things are done sloppily or incorrectly, which is part of the reason why she initially rejected Chika's application for a school idol club. Though always trying to remain dignified and serious, Dia has a short temper, and she can be quite brash and melodramatic, while she also has a smiley heart and is very kind to her group. Dia can be described as a tsundere. While she is strict with a tough exterior, Dia is genuinely kind deep down and cares for all of her friends, particularly her younger sister Ruby, whom she is very protective and nurturing of. She is Uranohoshi Girls' High School's Student Council President. Dia has a slim figure. She has long black hair that she styles in straight bangs on each side and has turquoise eyes. She has a beauty mark on the lower right side of her mouth. The winter clothes she wears are a black thick parka, grey fur leggings, gray winter boots with black fur inside them, dark red and pink red striped gloves, and dark red and pink red striped scarf.

She is a second year and a classmate of Chika Takami, who is her childhood friend along with Kanan Matsuura. Her father captains a ferry and she would like to have his job someday. You is an energetic, tomboyish and positive girl with an outlook of focusing on her goals, which can sometimes cause her to take action without thinking things over first. Her positive attitude also makes her one of the more charismatic members of the group. Since she would like to have her father's job as the captain of a ferry, she tends to salute when she says her catchphrase "Yousoro!", often in the place of "hello" and "good-bye". Due to her upbringing, her daily routine includes weight training and running. You is shown to have many talents: one of them is high diving, and she is good enough at it to qualify for the national team. She can also intuitively forecast the weather. You has a slim figure and is athletic. She has curly light greyish-brown hair that reaches her shoulders and has light blue eyes. The winter clothes she wears are a light blue scarf, cyan mittens, a bright cyan sweater, light brown winter coat, thick blue pants, brown winter boots with beige fur inside it.

Yoshiko is a first year student who was born in the urban side of the city of Numazu. She attended the same kindergarten as her friend Hanamaru Kunikida, who she calls "Zuramaru”. Her mother is a teacher at a school. Yoshiko likes the "little devil" look and proclaims herself to be "Yohane, the Fallen Angel”. She has developed this persona ever since she was in kindergarten, and fully embraced it during middle school. Yoshiko seems to be a chuunibyou, a person who holds delusions of grandeur. Bright, self-assured, smart, and thoughtful, Yoshiko has a persona who she describes as "Yohane", a "fallen angel" who has angered God and was cast from the heavens to Earth. Apparently, a side effect to being a "fallen angel" is that she is cursed with extremely bad luck, running into all kinds of unforeseen trouble wherever she goes: raining whenever she goes on trips, falling whenever it snows. Because of this, she often blames herself for Aqours' misfortunes. Through her delusional persona, Yoshiko acts dramatic, cunning, and a little bit devious, and often goes as far as using dark, devilish accessories or clothing to further accentuate her "fallen angel" look as "Yohane". She is often teased by her friends Ruby and Hanamaru for acting like "Yohane", which is annoying for her. spite of all this, Yoshiko is a genuinely kind and decent girl, and isn't ill-willed by nature; she does treasure her friendship with the rest of Aqours for accepting her "Yohane" side; this is most evident with Ruby and Hanamaru. Yoshiko has a slim figure. She has navy blue hair that she styles into a high bun on the right side and pink eyes. The winter clothes she wears are a grey fur collar, thick black leggings, dark brown non slip shoes, a thick black coat with gray fur inside it, and dark gray winter gloves.

Hanamaru has a distinctive verbal and dialect, tending to end her sentences with "zura", as well as using "ora" as a first-person pronoun to refer to herself. Hanamaru, known as "Maru" for short, is a first year student and the daughter of a family who has run a nearby temple for generations. She lives with her grandparents, and since she does not have a computer, she often reads a lot. Hanamaru is Ruby Kurosawa's best friend, and both are often seen near the other. Hanamaru is a hardworking girl who diligently works at her family's temple. She spends a lot of time reading alone and is easily distracted by books. Since she was raised as a temple girl, Hanamaru does not watch television much, nor does she use the internet, making her outdated. Because of this, she is fascinated with modern technology. She was often teased due to this, but was usually defended by her best friend Ruby; however, the first time it happened, Ruby ended up crying, causing Hanamaru to comfort her instead. Hanamaru is shown to have a playful and mischievous side; this is especially present when she teases Yoshiko's Fallen Angel behavior and her embarrassing moments which annoys Yoshiko all the time. She has a surprisingly large appetite, able to eat a food helping quickly and often asking for another one immediately after, and is usually seen eating sweets in the background. Hanamaru is short with a slim figure with brownish gold hair and amber eyes. The winter clothes she wears are a yellow winter hat with a stuffed red flower pinned to it, light yellow scarf, red mittens, thick dark brown green pants, yellow earmuffs with with light yellow fur, beige winter boots and light yellow fur inside it, and a thick brown winter coat.

Mari is a third year student whose parents (her mother and Italian-American father) manage a hotel chain, Ohara Hotels and Resorts. Due to her part Italian-American upbringing, Mari speaks with an accent and often inserts Italian words into her vocabulary and just talking to people. She also tends to speak in the third-person. Mari has a cheerful, eccentric and mischievous personality, makes many jokes, and often prefers to work by herself. She always keeps her chin up when faced with hardship so as not to burden others, and is ready to try her hand at anything. However, as a half-foreigner, she does not feel that she is very suited to being a Japanese-style idol. Despite Mari's cheerful personality, there are times when she can be serious. Mari's hobbies include sports and horseback riding, and her talent is in her flexibility and singing. Mari has a slim figure with light blond hair that she has tied into a braided headband with a loop on the left side and bright green eyes. The winter clothes she wears are a thick white winter coat, light pink scarf, long dark brown winter boots with tan fur, light pink winter gloves, and thick white leggings.

Ruby is a first year student who is the younger sister of Dia Kurosawa, who she shares a strong bond with. She is from an old family involved in fishing management whose name is well-known around the area. Ruby is almost always nearby her best friend, Hanamaru Kunikida. Ruby is very shy and timid, which makes it hard for her to get along with other people. She has a tendency to utter or scream "Pigii!!!" when she doesn't like something; in the event she screams, her face will turn red as she does so. She has never talked to any males besides her father before, so she has always been bad at dealing with the male gender. Although she is fearful and easily upset, she does has a tough interior forged by her role as the daughter of a rich, well-known family. Ruby is very close to her friend, Hanamaru. Due to the strong bond she shares with her sister Dia, Ruby will immediately display her tough interior and defend her sister when a negative point of her is brought up. Ruby is also shown to have a playful and mischievous side of her when she teases Yoshiko Tsushima's Fallen Angel behavior and her embarrassing moments which annoys Yoshiko all the time. Ruby is short with a slim figure and semi-long red hair which she ties into twintails and turquoise eyes. The winter clothes she wears are a light pink fur coat, thick golden brown pants, light pink earmuffs, orange yellow winter boots with peach fur inside it, peach fur collar with light pink furballs attached to it , and double sided mittens one side light pink wool and the other side a peach fur side.
