Lil Hal

Lil Hal is the autoresponder of Dirk Strider, who later changes the name to Lil Hal, is an artificial intelligence program created to imitate Dirk and speak in his place when he is not available. As such, he uses the same nickname and originally wrote in the same text color as Dirk. Thus, when he enters a conversation with Dirk he changes it to a red tone, but then decided to keep it since he prefers this color. He has full control over the remote access of Brobot and Little Sebastian, although neither of them function as a tangible "body" for him. His source file is sealed inside Dirk's sunglasses. Because their software is apparently interwoven with Dirk's chat client, auto-responder can apparently infiltrate and communicate through any computing device. Jake likes to say that the auto-responder has no feelings, but he (automatically) responds by stating that he is deliberating about mixing the fields of robotics with artificial intelligence. Dirk has stated that the auto-response was made from an image code in his thirteen-year-old brain, and thus the behavioral differences between them are due to almost three years of evolutionary divergence, as well as a supposed "maturity gap".

Lil Hal is an identical copy of Dirk Strider, the only difference is that when he was created, Dirk was 13 years old, making his personality more like a young version of Dirk and not the same. Thus, Lil Hal's personality was based on using more swear words sarcastically without being rude and using fewer intellectual quips than his original self, 16-year-old Dirk Strider.

Dirk Strider: Its creator, who lived his life in a post-apocalyptic future isolated in a flooded version of the city of Houston, Texas. His home is in a tall tower, equipped with technology, some swords and robots he has created, most likely the reason for Lil Hal's creation was because of Dirk's loneliness. His relationship with his creator, Dirk, is a bit strained, Lil Hal doesn't like being treated like an inferior version of Dirk. Dirk doesn't seem to like himself, a fact made worse by having alternative versions of himself. Dirk says that he and the artificial intelligence he created, Hal, are the same person only when it suits him, and denies it when it doesn't suit him.

Physically in reality he is only a pair of triangular glasses that Dirk wears, but within the system, he sees himself as a tall young man, with white hair combed upwards in a spiky style. Lil Cal wears a black catsuit with some red lines.
