Tony Stark is a wealthy son of industrialist and weapons manufacturer Howard Stark and his wife, Maria. Tony grew up a genius with a brilliant mind for technology and inventions, naturally following his father's footsteps, and inheriting Stark Industries upon his parents' untimely death. A brash but brilliant inventor, Tony is self-described as a genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist. He was kidnapped by the Ten Rings in Afghanistan, while demonstrating a fleet of Jericho missiles, and with his life on the line, Tony created an armored suit which he used to escape his captors. During the incident in Afghanistan, Tony had a bomb explode near him and had been wounded with shrapnel imbedded inside of him near his heart. While unconscious, he had an electromagnet hooked up to a car battery implanted into his chest to use magnetic fields to keep the shrapnel from killing him. He had created a tiny Arc Reactor to replace the electromagnet and keep the shrapnel from entering into his heart. Upon returning home, Tony utilized several more armors he created to use against terrorists, as well as Obadiah Stane (who turned against Tony). Following his fight against Obadiah, Tony publicly revealed himself as Iron Man. Defeating his enemies, he found himself dying due to the Arc Reactor imbedded in his chest poisoning his body, and had appointed Pepper Potts to become the new CEO of Stark Industries, all while he was challenged by Ivan Vanko who attempted to destroy his legacy. After the Stark Expo incident in his fight against Vanko, Tony reluctantly agreed to serve as a consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D where he used his position to upgrade their technology. With the world being threatened again, he joined the Avengers and helped defeat the Chitauri and Loki. Due to the battle, he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, leading him to create the Iron Legion to safeguard the world and help him retire.

J.A.R.V.I.S is an AI that functions as Tony Stark's assistant, running and taking care of all the internal systems of Stark's buildings, cars, and the Iron Man suits.
