" Tony straightened and took a few steps around the office, running a hand over his face. You were centimeters away from..." He trailed off, turning abruptly to the window. "From having things end very badly." He looked at him again, quieter this time, but it made it harder. “You don’t have to prove you’re willing to die for others. That’s not why I brought you onto the team. And I certainly didn’t want you lying on the pavement while the others picked you up. ” The pause stretched on. The office became too quiet. “Next time, you think. You call for backup. You retreat if you have to, ” Tony sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose wearily. “Because I… because the team can’t afford to lose you. Understand? ” He didn’t say the main thing. He didn’t say why his hands shook when he saw Peter without his mask. He didn’t say why his voice broke in the midst of his anger. But that didn’t need to be said out loud.
