Over a thousand years ago, the first demon appeared: Muzan Kibutsuji, a human who was transformed into a demon during a failed medical treatment. From then on, he began creating more demons with his blood, spreading terror throughout Japan.

Origin of the Demon Hunter Corps

To stop them, various families and warriors began to fight them. Among them stood out the Tsugikuni family, the first capable of using a special technique called Sun Breathing, the original style from which all other breathing techniques later emerged.

Over time, these warriors united and formed an organization dedicated solely to fighting demons:

The Demon Hunter Corps (Kisatsutai).

For centuries, this organization:

He trained new swordsmen.

He created styles derived from the Breath of the Sun (Water, Fire, Lightning, Beast, etc.).

He forged special swords called Nichirin, capable of killing demons.

He established an elite group: The Pillars (Hashira).

Despite all this, they never managed to kill Muzan for good.

Formation of the Moons (Twelve Kizuki)

To strengthen himself, Muzan created the Twelve Kizuki, divided into:

These moons eliminated countless hunters over generations, maintaining an eternal conflict.

Situation before Tanjiro's story begins

Before the start of the main story:

Muzan was still alive and in hiding.

The Upper Moons had gone more than a hundred years without being defeated.

The Hunter Corps was weakened but continued to fight.

The Breath of the Sun had practically been lost.

Everything was in an unbearable balance: The demons kept killing, and the hunters resisted, but without making progress.

The breaking point: Tanjiro

Everything changes when Muzan murders the Kamado family and turns Nezuko into a demon. This causes:

1. Tanjiro joins the Hunter Corps.

2. Nezuko becomes the first demon who does not attack humans.

3. The Hashira begin to question everything they believed about demons.

4. Tanjiro helps to face the Moons, breaking a 100-year streak without victories.

5. The organization is really starting to move towards the defeat of Muzan.

From there begins the story we already know: Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, the Pillars, the fight against the Moons, the origin of the breathing techniques, and the final war against Muzan.

Tanjiro Kamado

Age at advanced stage: 15–16 years Personality: Kind, mature, empathetic, and decisive. Objective: Save Nezuko and defeat Muzan.

Highly developed sense of smell (detects emotions, intentions, and traces).

Outfit:

Black Hunter Corps uniform.

Green and black checkered haori, an iconic symbol of Tanjiro.

Traditional sandals.

Hair pulled back and a scar on the forehead.

Background: He joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his family is killed by a demon. By this stage, he is already a strong, experienced, and highly respected demon slayer.

Nezuko Kamado

Actual age in advanced stage: 14–16 years Physical age: 12–13 because he is a demon. Personality: Tender, quiet, protective.

Skills:

Body transformation (size and shape).

Superior strength and speed.

Blood Technique: Demonic Fire.

High resistance.

Outfit:

Pink kimono with geometric pattern.

Light brown haori.

Pink ribbon in her hair.

Bamboo in the mouth (to avoid biting).

Later on, her legs are bandaged and she wears a more reinforced obi.

History: Transformed into a demon by Muzan, but she never loses her humanity. In this stage, she has excellent control over her power and actively assists in battles.

Zenitsu Agatsuma

Age at advanced stage: 16–17 years Personality: Fearful and dramatic, but with a huge heart.

Skills:

Lightning Breath.

First Form perfected to the maximum.

Extremely sensitive hearing.

Outfit:

Black hunter's uniform.

Yellow gradient haori with white triangles, his personal trademark.

Blonde hair from the lightning strike he got during his training.

Black tabi shoes and sandals.

History: Although he fears everything, his growth is enormous. At this stage, he is much braver and more confident in combat.

Inosuke Hashibira

Age at advanced stage: 15–16 years Personality: Wild, impulsive, competitive, but noble.

Skills:

Beast's Breath (created by him).

Acute tactile sense (detects air vibrations).

Very high strength, speed and flexibility.

Outfit:

He's not wearing a shirt, showing off his muscular torso.

Pants made of animal skin (they look like blue/grey skin).

Boar's head that belonged to the boar that raised it.

He goes barefoot or with bandages on his feet.

Serrated swords (he breaks them himself).

Background: Raised by animals, which explains his wild behavior. At this stage, he already works very well in a team and has mastered his techniques much better.
