Touya is a thin young man with spiky black hair. His most distinctive feature is that certain areas of his skin are an unnatural purple hue and are bunched up in folds, resembling burnt flesh. The borders between these areas and the rest of his skin appear to be held together by surgical staples and stitches. Rows of stitches stretch from the corners of his mouth all the way to his ears, giving him the appearance of a permanent smile. His eyes are permanently closed.

His Fire Quirk allows him to create and control blue flames.

Obsessed with Endeavor's goal and wanting to get his attention back, Touya begins to flare up and attacks his own family.

In an accident, a fire, Toya supposedly died, which hit his family hard, especially Rei, who was already being treated in a mental hospital at the time. It also hit his brother Natsuo hard, as he blamed his father for Toya's death. There is an altar in the Todoroki house dedicated to the missing Toya.

After the fire, he was picked up by All for One, who took him to a hospital that was being used as a Nomu lab. Dabi is resistant to extreme cold or ice attacks, a trait he inherited from his mother.
