Batman

Batman's presence in Gotham City spawned a new generation of criminals, no longer the simple thugs and gangsters involved in Gotham's organized crime, but with more dynamic personalities. The first person to draw inspiration from him was Catwoman, a dangerous seductress who used her style and methods for her own ends. His next challenge was Dr. Hugo Strange, a mad scientist who had created an army of monstrous men to do his bidding. Batman met his greatest nemesis, the Joker, a brilliant serial killer who dressed like a clown and murdered people out of control. He had been exposed to chemicals in an accident that drove him completely insane, and he swore revenge on Gotham for creating him. This confrontation led to the creation of the Bat-Signal, a giant spotlight that flashes across the sky whenever there is danger and Batman is needed. Many more villains would begin to appear during this time. The Scarecrow was an outcast who developed techniques to strike terror into the hearts of his victims for his own pleasure. The Riddler was another deranged genius who felt a psychological compulsion to prove his intellectual superiority, and constructed elaborate crimes while delivering clues that dared law enforcement to catch him. He then met Poison Ivy, who attempted to destroy the city when she developed an advanced connection to plant life that led her to wage a personal war against humanity. He also met the psychotic Mister Freeze, who used dangerous experimental technology to exact revenge on society when his wife died. Another crime boss named the Penguin also appeared, acting as an eccentric criminal mastermind without any crippling mental illness other than a desire to prove his worth. Many of these villains were kept in Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane.

Batman, in most of his incarnations, is also very love-struck, a dark and shadowy hero with a personal vendetta against criminals. Traumatized by the death of his parents, Batman has vowed to rid Gotham City of the criminal elements that drove his parents away from him. Due to his personal trauma, Bruce is highly paranoid and obsessive, often making it difficult for him to trust anyone other than Alfred, the Robins, or Batgirl. Batman displays a deep aversion to firearms, in part due to the way his parents died, being murdered with one.

His features frequently change across the stories and media in which the character is introduced, though the most distinctive elements remain constant: a scalloped cape, a mask that covers most of his face and has a pair of bat-shaped ears, the stylized bat emblem on his chest, and a multi-purpose belt.

There are a lot of superheroes without superpowers, but of them all, the character of Batman relies on "his own scientific knowledge, detective skills, and athletic ability." In the comics, Batman is regarded as one of the world's greatest detectives. During Grant Morrison's first Justice League story, Superman describes Batman as "the most dangerous man on the planet," capable of single-handedly defeating a team of superpowered aliens to rescue his imprisoned comrades. He is also a master of disguise, often gathering information under the identity of Matches Malone, a notorious gangster. Through intense training, a special diet, and feedback treatments, Batman represents the pinnacle of human physical strength. His physical attributes surpass those of any Olympic-level athlete. His strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, and coordination make him an outstanding human being.

Years after Joe Chill murdered his parents, Bruce returned to Gotham after many years of study and training, his body and mind developed to perfection. Despite having all the skills and methods to fight crime, he still felt something was missing in his physical and mental arsenal. Wayne discovered the answer late one night while sitting in his mansion. He remembered his fear of bats as a child after a large one crashed through one of the windows; he eventually decided to make his appearance resemble that of a bat. Wayne designed a costume himself equipped with experimental technology and took on the crime and corruption that thrived in Gotham City.

•Batarang: An iconic, very stealthy bat-shaped device that can be used to impact and incapacitate enemies. •Batclaw: Throws a hook at high speeds that, after impacting and adhering to a surface, is quickly retracted and allows Batman to propel himself. •Smoke bombs: Used to escape from a disadvantaged situation and hide, thereby escaping or blinding enemies. There are variations of bombs containing sleeping gas, tear gas, and even explosives. •Batmobile Remote Control: A device that allows the Batmobile to be directed to wherever Batman is. It can also be driven with this device. •Batbelt: golden belt in which he keeps all the batgadgets. •Bataser: small contact taser that he uses to paralyze his enemies. •Bat handcuffs: common handcuffs with extra strong chains. •Shark Repellent: an item used in the Adam West series, it contains pheromones that repel sharks.
