personality

Yamato greatly admires the legendary samurai Kozuki Oden above all else, to the point of emulating every aspect of him. She has referred to herself as Oden on multiple occasions and has even emulated his gender, referring to herself as "Kaidou's son" because Oden was a man.[7] Although initially hesitant about presenting herself as Oden,[12] Yamato has become more forthright about this identity over time, even proclaiming herself as such to Momonosuke, Oden's son, much to the boy's horror.[13] While fully embracing this identity, Yamato has not abandoned her original persona, referring to Yamato as her "other name."[11] Yamato doesn't seem to appreciate people mistaking her name, as she quickly corrected Luffy when he referred to her by a nickname.[14]

appearance

Yamato is tall, almost twice Luffy's height, but not as tall as Kaido. She has long, white hair tied in a ponytail with orange rods, its color fading to aquamarine and then blue as it progresses, ending in rectangular strands similar to Kaido's. Yamato also has large, orange eyes with prominent eyelashes, wears gold earrings in both ears, and has red horns. As for clothing, she wears a pair of red hakama pants and sandals, and, like Oden, a large purple and white nio-daisuki draped over her back.

outfit

Yamato's current outfit is a sleeveless white garment with a diamond-shaped design on both sides and an indigo-patterned lower half. This garment was originally a kimono with long, white sleeves, but these were later torn off, leaving the garment sleeveless and more form-fitting. Additionally, while in disguise, she also wore a hannya mask, which had a blue wig with an extremely long, wild mane attached to the top and a long blue goatee attached to the bottom.[10]

skills

Yamato consumed the Inu Inu Fruit: Model: Okuchi no Makami, a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows her to transform into a divine wolf, as well as a hybrid between a human and that animal. According to Kaido, this beast is a "guardian deity of Wano Country." Yamato ate this fruit simply out of hunger, even though it wasn't meant for her.

As a Zoan-type Devil Fruit, this fruit greatly enhances Yamato's physical abilities. She was able to fight her father, Kaido, the Emperor of the Sea, almost on equal terms while he was in his extremely powerful human-dragon form. Furthermore, being a carnivorous animal, this transformation grants her heightened predatory instincts, as well as equipping her with fangs and claws well-suited for combat.

As a Mythical Zoan fruit, this one grants special powers that a normal wolf does not possess. Yamato is able to unleash a powerful blast from his mouth that can strike evenly and counteract his father's fire breath. Haki Main article: Haki Yamato can use all three types of haki,[2][3] using advanced techniques of two of them.[11][3]

Kenbunshoku haki Main article: Kenbunshoku haki Yamato can use kenbunshoku haki, but his level of use is unknown.[2]

Busoshoku haki Main article: Busoshoku Haki Yamato is capable of using Busoshoku Haki, as demonstrated by imbuing his hand and kanabo with it while preparing to attack Hatcha, resulting in a lightning-like effect. Yamato can use this advanced-level Haki, projecting it a great distance forward and striking distant opponents with tremendous force with a single strike of the kanabo.

Haoshoku haki Main article: Haoshoku haki Yamato can use Haoshoku Haki, having first awakened it twenty years ago. As an adult, Yamato demonstrated her advanced application of Haoshoku Haki infusion: something only a few can do.

physical abilities

She demonstrated enormous physical strength, as she was able to knock Ulti out with a single blow of her mace while Ulti was transformed. Due to her large size, she is able to easily lift Luffy and grab him with only one arm while running. Yamato is quite fast, capable of launching herself forward with blinding speed to attack her targets, as well as to escape the Beast Pirates members who pursued her.[10] Yamato also possesses great durability, easily withstanding explosions and direct cuts, ending up with only bruises and superficial cuts.[11] As a child, Yamato was able to endure the beatings her father gave her and managed to go for periods without eating.

arms

Yamato wields a giant kanabo called Takeru, which is very similar to Kaido's Hassaikai, though studded and thinner, while Kaido's has spikes and is slightly thicker. Combined with his immense strength, the kanabo can cause tremendous damage to objects and opponents with a single strike,[10] and with Haki, it can be used to perform ranged attacks that can even resemble energy blasts.[18] In addition to the kanabo being a powerful and blunt weapon, Yamato has masterful technique with it, being able to move it to counter Luffy's rapid attacks with little effort.

history

Past Admiring the legendary samurai As a child, Yamato told Kaido of her personal desire to become the great samurai Kozuki Oden, which greatly displeased her father, who then severely beat Yamato. Later, Yamato was present at Oden's execution during the Legendary Hour twenty years prior, becoming emotional during Shinobu's speech and grieving the death of her idol.[9][11] After the execution, Yamato rushed to Oden's castle to save Momonosuke, but only witnessed Kaido threatening the boy.[5]

Despite being angry and saddened by Oden's death at the hands of Kaido and Orochi, Yamato felt a great surge of willpower, which compelled her to go to Oden's castle in Kuri. Arriving just late enough for the attack to have ended, Yamato found Oden's logbook lying there.[7]

From then on, Yamato began to impersonate Oden, causing commotion and chaos on Onigashima for a week. Eventually, driven by hunger, the lower ranks managed to bind her with chains, but she inadvertently used Haoshoku Haki against her captors, which Kaido observed with awe. Seeing his daughter's persistence in impersonating his enemy, he decided to imprison her for a month in a cave with three samurai, forcing them to kill each other for a ration of food. Frightened by this and thinking they would resent her for being the daughter of Oden's killer, Yamato was surprised when they allowed her to eat. Greatly impressed by her willpower, the four began to bond, reading Oden's notebook together. After ten days, Yamato declared that she would fight in the battle of the future against Kaido, whereupon the samurai destroyed the cave and escaped, allowing her to live to see it. [3]

At some point after that, Kaidou placed explosive shackles made of sea stone[2] on Yamato to prevent any possibility of escaping from Onigashima.
