Quote from the 2nd book

...The redhead puts on his glasses, and the angel disappears. That leaves the neurotic and the pervert.

Short description

Red is the rat leader. Cheeky and shameless, like all Rats. He is afraid of blue bags. He has back problems, which is why he wears a plaster corset. Also, the Redhead believes that if he comes to someone in a dream, that person will die soon.

Plot

In the Interlude, he lived in the Burial Ground almost all the time, and there were rumors around the House that he was not a tenant. For this reason, he was nicknamed Death. His close friends since childhood were the Grasshopper and the Redhead, who was almost a sister.

In the time of the Smoker, he is the leader of the Rats. Some of his colleagues do not like his candidacy, as a result of which, during the Longest, an attempt is made on him. However, the rebels cannot overthrow him. It is the Redhead who brings the Blind Man together with Gaby, which contributes to the adoption of the new Law.

Red tries to hide on the Inside of the House when he is being hunted by Don, Solomon and Wick, who planned his overthrow. But the dogheads force him to return to the House, where the attempt still happens.

Appearance

Brown eyes ("She thinks of herself in the chocolate puddles of his eyes"). A bloody hedgehog of natural hair. A rose on my cheek. Under the glasses, dark eyes with copper eyelashes, “angel eyes”, a thin face. Without glasses, he doesn't look like himself with glasses. Shaved eyebrows. Wearing glasses is a red-lipped neurotic and a pervert. He is handsome, as is usually the case with angels. But in order to survive in the 2nd and, moreover, to be its leader, you need to look like a freak, hence the bowler hat, pop-eyed (frog) glasses on the floor of the face with green glasses. Hence the dirty white flowered trousers or the ridiculous purple trousers with hearts on the knees. White shirt and bow tie (red and white polka dots). Sneakers. Hence the knife he carries with him and the bundle of dried chicken bones around his neck. Hence the "hedgehog" haircut and the rose on the cheek.

Personality

Hopelessly older than Rats, not by years, but by the questions he asks himself. He calculates a lot in advance, ahead of even the Blind in his service to the House and its inhabitants. It is he who owns the idea of the Law of Girls, which the Blind Person embodies. He's the one who's figuring out how to switch the Redhead's attention to Lary with the help of a Rat. He was the one who was able to take over the Old Man's watch and lead the Farm. He is the one who collects money for the maintenance of the Sleepers. And it seems that he also had a hand in their tug-of-war with the bodies on the Inside Out.

...

His saying is "There is no more death." It's probably just that he will no longer be the messenger of Death. After all, Death has not gone away?

past

In the Burial Ground in his ward, a Redhead spends the day and nights. Death treats her like a sister, she treats him like a brother. He is called death either because he is on the verge between life and death, or because he visits those who are about to die in a dream. It's his gift.

Gradually it turns out that he is a fugitive Angel of death from another world, who is tired of his job and just wants to live as a human among people. Hence the recumbency, and then the corset, and then the abandonment of it in the last weeks before the Release. Is the redhead smoothly moving from disembodied to the density familiar to people?
