Sphinx

The Sphinx is an armless giant, the caring "mother" of the Fourth. A fairly authoritative person in the House – according to the Smoker, he occupies the next step after the Blind in importance.

Green-eyed and beardless, tall, wears prosthetics (not all time), which he calls a rake. Bald, looks older than his years. Before the first jump, he was a reddish blond.

Sensitive and understanding, able to listen

In the Interlude, he first lived in a Trash House, where he was attacked by classmates. He was disliked because of the increased attention of the Moose; and because he was everywhere and everywhere with the Blind, they teased and called him the Tail of the Blind. After getting acquainted with the Wolf and returning from the Burial Ground, he goes to the group of Plague Deadlings formed by the Wolf.

In the time of the Smoker, the Sphinx dwells in the Fourth. Just like in childhood, he is the Blind Man's best friend. The only one who talked directly to Ralph about Walkers and Jumpers.
