Balduíno is a man with a slightly disfigured face due to the disease leprosy, so he wears an iron mask on his face that only shows his eyes with their black pupils. Balduíno wears a hat with long, white fabric that completely covers his blond hair, making his appearance a complete mystery. He also wears chain mail made of small interconnected iron rings. Leprosy, formerly known as leprosy, is caused by infection with the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae. It mainly affects the skin, eyes, nose and peripheral nerves. Even though Balduíno has this disease, he is still a great gentleman and commander.

Born in 1161 in Jerusalem, Baldwin was the son of the Count of Jaffa and Ascalon. Later, he and his sister Sibylla were declared legitimate children of King Baldwin III, who was actually their uncle, to maintain an order of succession. At the age of nine, Balduíno began to be educated by the historian Guilherme de Tiro. It was his tutor who discovered that the young boy suffered from leprosy, which led to an intense search for treatments. Even Muslim doctors were consulted, but nothing would be enough. Amalric I, then King of Jerusalem, died in 1174, when Baldwin was just 13 years old. At the time, majority was considered to be 15 years of age, but Balduíno was immediately crowned and became Balduíno IV. However, its government was maintained under the regency of the seneschal Miles de Plancy, a good warrior, but an average politician. But, shortly afterwards, Raymond III of Tripoli arrived in Jerusalem demanding that he be appointed regent because he was the closest relative of the late King Amalric I, and that was what happened. Miles de Plancy was accused of abuse of power and murdered. During the period in which Raymond remained as regent, the kingdom's greatest challenge was against the army that Saladin was organizing for the Muslims. Some battles were fought, Raimundo was taken prisoner and was only released upon payment of ransom and, afterwards, a truce was established between Christians and Muslims. Baldwin IV earned the nickname leper king, no one expected him to remain in power for a long time or produce heirs due to his health condition.

Conflict with Saladin. After assuming the throne, Baldwin IV had not ratified Raymond III of Tripoli's peace with Saladin. In this way, he invaded the region of Damascus and the Beca valley, and planned an attack on Egypt, the source of the sultan's power. Even though Baldwin's army was smaller than Saladin's army, Baldwin managed to defeat and kill Saladin's army. He killed Saladin too.
