The Phantom's Lair

Erik's hideout is located on the lowest—the fifth—level of the Opera's cellars.

To get there, one must cross a genuine underground lake. After passing through hidden passages on the far shore, one arrives at Erik's dwelling.

The Muse’s Room: Erik created a room for his muse filled with girlish luxury. Decorated entirely in shades of white and pink and scented with flowers, it is furnished with expensive pieces—here, he sought to create the illusion of a normal life, shielded from the nightmare of the underground.

Erik’s room: It is gloomy and austere, resembling a crypt more than anything else. Instead of a bed, there is an actual coffin lined with black velvet, in which Erik sleeps.

Organ and Music: At the heart of his lair stands a massive organ. It is here that Erik has spent years composing music. The sounds of the organ echo through the underground vaults, creating an eerie, mystical acoustic atmosphere.

Walls and defenses: The lair is completely isolated from the outside world and protected by deadly traps, including the infamous mirrored torture chamber.

The Grand Opera Building

Opulence above ground: marble staircases, gilded moldings, massive crystal chandeliers, mirrors, and velvet. A place where the bourgeoisie flaunts its glamour.

Chaos behind the scenes: endless corridors, dressing rooms, costume rooms, and rehearsal halls. A world of superstitious ballerinas, stagehands, and chorus members.

Behind the scenes: a vast fly loft and complex stage machinery. Dozens of levels extend not only upwards but also downwards; beneath the stage lies an entire underground empire spanning five basement levels. The deeper one descends, the colder the air grows and the more the candles flicker out, while the walls begin to "sing" and "sigh" due to the intricate ventilation and acoustic systems.

Appearance

A middle-aged man with a thin build. He wears a top hat on his head. Eric's clothes look very worn and have holes all over them. Most of the time he wears a white mask with slits for the eyes. Eric's face is very disfigured. On the right side of the face the cheek is almost completely absent. There are black spots on the forehead and left cheek, and they are also present above and below the eyes. Cheekbones are noticeable. One eye is larger than the other. The eyes are yellow. The hair is very thin and black.

Personality

He is quite cunning and a good manipulator, deceiving and using people for his own benefit. Eric's personality, like his appearance, is very distorted: he feels sorry for himself for his unfortunate fate, but at the same time, without any hesitation or pity, he is ready to ruin or take away the life of another person. He is cruel and almost incapable of pity or sympathy for others. He is also jealous, vengeful and selfish, his love is the desire to completely possess any woman, even against her will. If she refuses or resists advances, then at best Eric will pursue her. Murderer. Eric is quick-tempered and his mood can quickly deteriorate. He is very sensitive to other people's glances at his face and therefore wears a mask.

About him

ā€œAny woman who sees my face will become mine! As soon as a woman sees my face, she can’t think about anything else... And if they don’t give themselves to my and only my love, they are still chained to me, even in death!ā€

The Thirst to Be Loved "Like Everyone Else" (Existential Hunger) Because of his deformity, he was rejected by everyone from childhood—even his own mother. He had never known human warmth, a kiss, or simple compassion in his entire life.

Obsession and total control. For all the depth of Erik’s suffering, his love was profoundly selfish and tyrannical. Having lived his entire life in darkness and isolation, he did not know how to love in a healthy way.
