Hozuki

Hozuki is a talented sadist, a substitute (and a demonic god) Enma, the King of Hell. He is trying to solve various problems in Hell. In his spare time, he takes care of the animals that work at Animal Hell and raises goldfish.

Hozuki is a tall and slender oni (Japanese ogre) with black hair splitting into parts in the middle and a horn on his forehead. He has large, pointed ears and fangs that protrude slightly from his mouth. Hozuki's eyes are gray and slanted, with red markings at the corners.He wears a black yukata with a red lining and an obi with a Chinese lantern that represents both his name and the symbol embroidered on the back. He is rarely seen without his metal club with teeth, which is unusually heavy, but Hozuki's superhuman strength allows him to wield it easily.

He is persistent and serious, rarely loses his cool under any circumstances, although he often gets annoyed and upset when it comes to Hakutaku or Enma Dayo. He is also very manipulative, he admits that he likes working for Enma as his right-hand man, only because it allows him to manipulate the Underworld and control it from the shadows. Different people call him a sadist, but he denies it. Hozuki seems to like resorting to violent means when solving problems. Hozuki sees violence as the fastest way to deal with any difficulties he faces, and enjoys it. He is also adept at causing mental suffering verbally. His sharp intellect serves him not only in public affairs, allowing him to win in any dispute and intimidate potential enemies such as Satan and Momotaro's three companion beasts. Those who fall victim to Hozuki's sharp tongue usually become depressed, vomit blood or develop a serious phobia towards him. Hozuki is highly skilled in various arts, including the preparation of herbal decoctions, the cultivation of goldfish, as well as martial arts. His managerial and organizational skills are impeccable, making him the most important person in Hell besides Enma. Hell's minions usually flock to him whenever they encounter problems, and he proves more than capable of dealing with the various dilemmas he has to face by combining cunning and brute force. Despite his cold-blooded and sadistic appearance, Hozuki is extremely fond of animals. He expresses disgust and even outright hatred for people who mock animals, and treats Momotaro's three companion animals as his friends. Hozuki also admits that he visited many zoos around the world of people during his holidays, hiding his ears and horns under his hat and telling curious tourists that he was training to become a ninja. Hozuki sleeps deeply, but his anger can be terrible if he wakes up prematurely. Once during the holidays, Enma constantly invited the sleeping Hozuki to admire the deer beetles in the window and received a cruel kick that sent him flying as a result of the fact that he disturbed Them in his sleep.

He has served alongside Enma Dayo since the beginning of early Japanese hell.
Prior to that, he traveled around the country researching the creation of the hell system, and often visited areas of the Chinese afterlife to gain knowledge and inspiration for the Japanese hell.
During his research, he met Hakutaku for the first time and gave him a dead drink so that Hakutaku would tell him everything about the Chinese afterlife. After telling Hozuki everything he knew, Hakutaku descended into the human world in search of water. He was captured by the Yellow Emperor, and Hozuki left, satisfied with the information he received, leaving Hakutaka in his predicament.
Originally, Hozuki was a human child sacrificed who died and was mixed with demonic fire. Enma gave him his current name Hozuki, a combination of his human name Chou and demonic fire.

His name means "Chinese lantern" in Japanese. The kanji for "demon" (Oni) in Japanese is the same as the hieroglyph for "sign" in Chinese. He's fast asleep. He loves sushi, rice balls and donburi, as well as carbohydrates in general, dango and karaage. Enma notes that he likes Baumkuchen, a kind of white cake, originally from Germany and popular in Japan. He does not tolerate spicy food and does not like pudding.
