The kingdom of Hallownest is a vast land, founded by the long gone Pale King. once housing many bugs, Hollownest has now fallen and little civilization remains, and many of the corpses of its habitants are now hosts of the Infection, a plague started by a deity called the Radiance.

In Hallownest live humanoid bugs of various species, or at least used to live. These bugs arrived to the kingdom bearing magic masks which protected them from forgetting who they were, an unusual effect from the outer lands.

Gruzzlers are smaller, far more primitive bugs that mainly reside in the Forgotten Crossroads. Their appearance consists of a blue-ish gray torax, a small abdomen, and a white mask-like face with black eyes and a large, almost trunk-like proboscis. They have 6 tiny legs, and small yet strong wings that allow them to wander aimlessly through the air.

The aging of a gruzzler is quite simple–no particular changes are present other than growth, their torax especially becoming far larger and rounder. Female gruzzlers can become pregnant, on which case they'll keep their young on their stomach. The offspring will burst out of the mother's stomach upon her death. This odd pregancy progress also tires the gruzzler quite a lot, causing them to sleep often.

While young gruzzlers are very absent-minded and unaware of their surroundings, often flying and bumping into things, maturing brings them a bit of sense of survival. Mature gruzzlers will bash anything and anyone they sense to be dangerous, taking advantage of their large bodies.
