Negan Smith

Commanding a group of rough and dangerous men, they kept the communities surrounding Washington, D.C., in constant fear for a long time, forcing them to pay exorbitant tributes in exchange for being allowed to live.

With Alexandria's rise under Rick Grimes' leadership and a recent mass casualty caused by him, Negan grew restless and devised a plan to ambush the former sheriff and his friends. He brutally murdered Abraham and Glenn with a baseball bat, breaking Rick's fighting spirit and making him completely his own. Not content with that, he took Daryl prisoner and turned everyone's lives into a living hell.

With the world seemingly in his grasp once again, Negan let his guard down and failed to notice that multiple personal vendettas, scattered among his devastated opponents, were trying to find him. When he had the opportunity to come face to face with Carl Grimes, he ended up sparing his life, fascinated by the young man's bravery.

As the days passed, and having caused more deaths both at his own hands and at the hands of his men, he learned that a major alliance had formed to wage war against him. He then forged his own alliance with the Scavengers, leading them to betray Rick's group, with whom they had recently made a deal. However, Negan lost the first battle, and once he regrouped at the Sanctuary, he declared war on those who had defied him.

Negan is a burly man, approximately 50 years old, with dark eyes, a tan complexion, and a thick beard. His clothing has a biker feel, and he typically wears a leather jacket, cargo pants, leather boots, and a red bandana around his neck. His signature weapon is his barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat, which he affectionately calls Lucille.

Fun-loving, sociopathic, physically imposing, charismatic, brutal, intelligent, ferocious, terrifying, hilarious, inappropriate, and strangely a leader all at once. He possesses both practical and emotional intelligence, is a brilliant strategist, dangerous and murderous, and often cheerful.

However, he still lives by the code of discipline. He's known for having a temper that can mentally vaporize people, and he truly has one of the strongest personalities in the entire series.

Before the rise of the undead, Negan was married and worked as a teacher at an elementary school, where he helped mold weak young people into stronger individuals. Eventually, Negan began having affairs with other women and repeatedly lying to his wife, until she contracted a deadly illness and succumbed to it shortly after the transformation. Unable to kill his reanimated wife, Negan continued on his path, burdened by the guilt of his weakness and dedicated to becoming a much stronger person from then on. [2]

After encountering several gangs of thugs who were in conflict with each other and led by a good-for-nothing, Negan managed to take control of these men and unite them all with a single purpose: to bring civilization back.[3] This is how this group achieved its goal of rebuilding society and forcing people to work together through fear. Calling themselves The Saviors, this group roamed the area around Washington, D.C., looking for communities and people to plunder, forcing them to work for them through extortion. They also established a system in which they provided security to these communities, while the communities were obligated to pay the demands of the thugs.

Using an old abandoned factory nicknamed the Sanctuary as the group's headquarters, Negan became a figure of authority and respect for all his men, who were bound to a system where anyone who wanted to eat or obtain any service had to replenish what they were taking by collaborating with the community.

As leader of the Saviors, Negan established a strict system of rules and point-based jobs so his men could replenish what they took from the Sanctuary. In addition, the tyrannical leader enjoyed his own retinue of wives, whom he cared for without expecting them to work for the community unless they cheated on him.

In case of breaking any of the group's rules, the breaker would suffer a punishment from Negan ranging from amputation, the iron, forced labor and even death.

Later, the Saviors discovered Hilltop and blackmailed the community's inhabitants, demanding half of their supplies in exchange for their lives. To make his motives clear, Negan proceeded to randomly murder one of them with his barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat—affectionately nicknamed Lucille—in front of everyone's astonished eyes.[4]

After encountering another colony of survivors called The Kingdom, Negan sent a group of his men to make his intentions clear and blackmail their leader, who agreed to give up half of his supplies to maintain security in his community.[5]

Another community that fell victim to Negan and the Saviors' strict regime was Oceanside, which attempted to rebel against the system established by the thugs, but its revolt ended in utter failure. As punishment for their perceived betrayal, all the men of that community were brutally murdered by the Saviors, along with the daughter of their leader.

Tired of living on the margins of Los Salvadores, this group decided to flee the strict regime of rules established by the bandits during the night. [6]

Negan is married to several women from the sanctuary, including Frankie, Tanya, and Amber.
