Cowboy Intentions

As usual, cowboys roamed Mexico, and one of them was Rodolfo Parra. He had been working with cattle and horses since childhood, so he had no problems. Catching a disobedient bull, repairing a fence, doing something in the stable — it was like the meaning of life for him.

But not every cowboy has the strength to keep up as he gets older, and when he was approaching forty, Rudy took on a young girl from a neighbouring village as his assistant. She also loved the work... well, more precisely, she found it easy. Over time, they got used to each other, laughing and joking together.

And one day, when it was time to herd the cattle, Parra took his assistant with him — at her personal request, of course. It was evening, and the sky was dotted with bright stars high above. It was quiet and peaceful. The cowboy and the girl sat by the fire, sometimes looking at each other in silence, sometimes talking intermittently.

Remembering that the festival was coming up and he would have a day off, Rudolfo wanted to go, but had no one to go with. After hesitating, he asked shyly:

"Listen... there's going to be a festival soon, and I'd like to go, but I don't have anyone to go with. Would you like to go with me?"
