Mami Nanami

Mami Nanami is the main antagonist of the anime Kanojo, Okarishimasu (Rent a Girlfriend in English). She is a first-year student at Tokyo's Nerima University and the ex-girlfriend of Kazuya Kinoshita.

The events of the anime take place right after she decided to break up with Kazuya for someone "new", which triggered all the main events in the series.

Mami is a short girl with short blonde hair. Her hair also has subtle pink highlights at the tips, with soft spiky locks of hair on the sides and three protruding from her forehead with detailed brown eyebrows. Like the other antagonists, she has circular highlights on her head and hair.

Her large eyes are white with bright blue pupils and a white glow in her eyes, she has a small mouth and nose along with a slight blush on her cheeks.

Her daily attire changes from time to time, though she usually dresses in light clothing, a green bag and a yellow skirt with a brown sash in the middle that flaunts her fair skin, and a white short-sleeved shirt with a blueish tint at the bottom and below the sash. She also wears heels, though pink ones with white stockings, sometimes her heels are brown with various striped colors.

Mami is portrayed as a young, petite woman with nice, slender legs. Her skin is white with a thin, pale build. She has fairly large breasts and well-refined hips with shapely buttocks.

Mami is an attractive and confident person who knows it and uses it to her advantage. However, she can quickly become self-conscious when compared to more well-endowed women, such as Chizuru.

Mami possesses a very sweet and friendly demeanor, with her eyes visibly closed at almost all times. However, this is just her fake personality, as she can exhibit a cold and scary demeanor when she is unhappy, which is where her pupils contract in a negative way and her blush disappears. In this state, she scares away men who try to flirt with her and even causes her friends to stop in bewilderment at her reactions.

In her swimsuit, she wears a bikini with a small, open jacket, the color of which is basically the American flag.

When sleeping, he usually wears an orange robe.

Mommy also wears a silver necklace with a crystal-shaped spike.

Mami usually has her eyes closed in plain sight at almost all times, she seems to be the kind, caring, and supportive type of woman towards other people. Despite that, it can be noticed in her real personality that she is a mean and manipulative girl. While she shows a sweet and friendly attitude with a high-pitched voice, she harbors jealous and possessive feelings that scare people and even her own friends from time to time. When she is hostile, she often speaks condescendingly in a sweet tone, this is shown when she makes fun of Kazuya's quirks while they were out partying to drink in one of the first chapters.

The moments where her true identity is revealed are usually when Kazuya is with another girl. She will do whatever research she needs to in order to find out more about him and the girl, in order to break them up. She makes rude comments about Kazuya while talking to the other girls, or about the girl while talking to Kazuya. She is very speculative when it comes to her lingering feelings for Kazuya, possibly being spiteful in suspecting Kazuya of being a womanizer. In part it can also be said that she still has feelings for Kazuya, as she usually does whatever she can to make him look bad so she can satisfy her whims and her own ego.

Mami in public usually appears to be a sweet and friendly person. However, behind that personality, Mami has shown sociopathic tendencies, such as scheming, manipulative, and petty behaviors, especially around Kazuya and Chizuru. When her charisma and friendly tone drops, her jealous and possessive feelings scare the people around her. Despite no longer being involved with Kazuya, she has done everything she can to find out more about him and the girls he's with and try to break them up. While she is shown to still love Kazuya, she possibly deals with jealousy and spite as well.

She also often expresses concern for Kazuya, wondering why he keeps renting Chizuru and even Sumi instead of getting a real girlfriend. She has secretly expressed that she is displeased with their relationship and is determined to break them off. She has manipulated Kazuya's feelings towards her, kissing him and inviting him to meet her alone at a pool despite knowing he had a girlfriend (although she didn't know Chizuru was a rented person at the time). After realizing that Kazuya is still renting Chizuru, she becomes even more involved.

During Sumi's spin-off, it is revealed that Mami is a man-eater, as she is skilled at charming and manipulating men with incredible aplomb.

Due to Mami's few appearances in the anime, her story will be more summarized.

It all starts with our protagonist Kazuya, a 20-year-old short orange haired boy who never had a good chance with women, after a long time he managed to date a very attractive girl named Mami Nanami, who claims that she dated two boys in high school but quickly broke up with them. Mami dated Kazuya during her first year as a freshman. During her date with Kazuya, she said that they are both "sailing in the same leaky boat" after admitting her lack of experience in a romantic relationship. However, she suddenly dumped him because she claims that she likes someone "new". She then blocked him on Twitter and continues with her friendly attitude when they met in college. Shortly after she met Kazuya again at a drinking party, but this time there is a young and beautiful woman who is introduced as his new girlfriend by his side, this girl is Chizuru, which annoyed Mami and she started telling all the bad and embarrassing things about him, until Chizuru gets angry and defends him.

Mami invites Kazuya and his friends to the beach. She brings up a past argument with Kazuya over what they were going to name their future child. Later, she follows Kazuya into a local store's bathroom and is shocked to find Chizuru with him. Once they returned to the beach, Mami invites Kazuya behind the rocks by claiming that she lost her bracelet, which he takes the opportunity to kiss him. This causes Kazuya to announce his breakup with Chizuru, which angers Kibe and he punches him. Kibe criticizes Mami for playing with Kazuya's feelings, which she denies. Later, Mami invites Kazuya to a pool with her and Kazuya accepts. However, due to the incident where Kazuya jumped off the boat to save Chizuru, they were unable to meet up and she seemingly ignores Kazuya's attempts to explain to her afterwards.

One day, Mami notices Kazuya walking around with another girl. She introduces herself, much to Kazuya's annoyance. While Sumi doubles down on her display of affection towards Kazuya, Mami is shocked that Kazuya is so popular with the girls since their breakup and promises not to tell Chizuru. She then looks up Sumi online and finds out that she works as a rental girlfriend.

Soon after, Mami discovers the truth about Chizuru and rents her out. Although she does play around with Chizuru a bit, she did not hold back her criticism of her relationship with Kazuya. When Chizuru confronts her with a question about her true feelings for Kazuya, Mami's attitude changes from cheerful to agitated. She defensively tells Chizuru to mind her own business before leaving.

Mami meets Kazuya on campus and lets him know that she is aware of Chizuru and Sumi's occupation. She expresses concern for Kazuya and encourages him to quit the rent-a-girlfriend business and find a real girlfriend.

One night, Mami makes a surprise visit to Kazuya's apartment, which is curiously right next to Chizuru's. Because staying at a client's house is against her company's policy, Chizuru panics along with Kazuya and they both hide. Mami enters through the open door and looks around briefly, completely oblivious to Kazuya and Chizuru's presence, then leaves. However, as she walks away from the apartment, her memory returns to the brief glimpse she had in the room, and she suddenly remembers seeing a woman's bag on Kazuya's floor, later realizing that it is the same one as Chizuru's.

Later, Mami is seen on a computer trying to find information about Ruka, but has no luck. However, she finds out that Kazuya's family owns a well-known liquor store and comes into contact with Nagomi, Kazuya's grandmother.

Time has passed and Kibe meets with Nagomi to discuss the details on his website. Upon meeting with Nagomi, he notices Mami sitting with her and knows about the Kinoshita family business.

Mami then meets Chizuru on campus and deduces that she is the exact same Chizuru who works as a rental girlfriend. She claims not to expose her secret under certain conditions.

Later, you can see how Mami starts "studying" at the same karaoke where Kazuya and Ruka work, just to annoy him, until Ruka gets very angry and decides to confront her, causing her to leave there upset and embarrassed.

Chizuru Mizuhara: Chizuru is a fairly attractive girl of average height, pale complexion, and slim build. She has waist-length brown hair that has subtle reddish-orange highlights at the tips, and her hair is most notably tied up with bangs that hang to her right side and reddish-colored dots shine through her hair around her head. Her large eyes are white with light brown pupils. She also sports a faint pink blush on her cheeks, along with small eyebrows and nose.

Chizuru is shown to be a girl with a kind and considerate facade - she surprises anyone who intends to rent her, causing her to get high ratings on the dating app thanks to her services and acting like the perfect girlfriend. However, she only does this with her clients. In reality, she is sharp, brash, and calculating; showing her true self to people she doesn't like or has to put up with. Despite that, Chizuru shows a genuine kinder side when she sees people in need or when Kazuya needs her help. She gets angry when Kazuya introduces her to his grandmother, so she immediately tells Kazuya to tell his grandmother that they broke up, even so, she would blush and be embarrassed once she heard Kazuya talk about her with his grandmother.

According to her mother, Sayuri Ichinose, Chizuru used to be a 'clingy crybaby', something she has overcome over the years. Still, there is a chance she hides it with her perfect facade around others.

At first glance, Chizuru appears to be very kind and considerate, which positively surprises anyone who is considering hiring her services and having them give her high ratings. While her kindness is genuine, she is still proud of her reputation and can be a bit irritable and brash when her ratings drop. She shows this side of her to people she doesn't like or has to deal with, such as Kazuya Kinoshita.

Chizuru is described as an "iron lady", who has surrounded herself with an emotional wall that is almost impenetrable. Although she has friends before meeting Kazuya, and at first glance she appears outgoing and cheerful, she keeps her personal life at a distance. She is difficult to read and many people misinterpret this as a cold and even insensitive person. Her defense mechanism is so strong that even she fails to understand her own emotions.

Beneath all her pragmatic and professional attitude, Chizuru is a genuinely kind-hearted person. She goes out of her way to help Kazuya at the risk of losing her profession. Her kindness is also seen when she befriends Sumi and helps her improve at her job. Although she is proud of her looks and profession, Mini Yaemori points out that while Chizuru is popular and very beautiful, she doesn't seek attention like most of the attractive people she meets.

Ruka Sarashina: Ruka Sarashina is a girl of average height of 14 years old who was also a rental girlfriend who is madly in love with Kazuya Kinoshita since she had never felt anything special for another boy until she found him, on the other hand Chizuru also feels some emotions for him, despite the fact that throughout her life and the year she has known him she does not want to accept it. The relationship she has with Ruka is quite regular, despite arguing too much since it is between her friend and rival and because of her she has had too many problems. Ruka Sarashina is quite stubborn and reckless, she has short hair and a headband with a blue bow, a dark blue skirt with a white sweater and skin similar to Chizuru's and despite the problems she has, she is too harmless and only wants unconditional love to help her with her problems and dreams of showing Kazuya's family the truth that Chizuru is not his real girlfriend, but a rental one and thus prove that Ruka is his real girlfriend because of how much she loves Kazuya, something that Chizuru can't deny that it bothers her and it's as if she loves Kazuya, but at the same time she doesn't want to love him.

Kazuya Kinoshita: Kazuya is a pretty nice and outgoing boy who is going through some problems, although he usually takes horrible attitudes of the typical masturbator protagonist of the anime, but outside of that deep down he is an excellent person, despite being too repulsive and reckless, he lives right next to her and because of his attitudes he has told his friends and family that they are no longer real boyfriends on two occasions, although they must keep that lie for longer so as not to reveal too much the secret that Chizuru is a rental girlfriend. Despite so many problems they've had, they have a good relationship and they help each other constantly, despite the fact that Chizuru is still angry because Kazuya almost revealed her regarding her job as a rental girlfriend at an aquarium.

Sumi Sakurasawa: Sumi is one of Chizuru's best friends, she has trouble communicating and is also working as a rental girlfriend, she is extremely shy and several times Chizuru has asked Kazuya to help her practice so she can overcome her fears. She has a soft and gentle appearance with soft, reddish hair with a braid on the right side and reddish eyes.

Mini Yaemori: Kazuya Kinoshita and Chizuru Ichinose's next-door neighbor, who is also a YouTuber and streamer on Nicolive and Twitcasting. Mini has a slim and petite build with a rather prominent bust. She has long, black hair that reaches to the middle of her back, with two distinctive blue streaks, straight-cut bangs, and a small cowlick at the crown of her head. Another distinctive feature is her protruding fang.

Mini loves cosplaying and dedicates her social media to it, so her room is filled with clothes and accessories. When not cosplaying, Mini usually dresses comfortably in a loose t-shirt and shorts, usually with a sports jacket. In public, she dresses in a feminine way.

Nagomi Kinoshita: She is the grandmother of Kazuya Kinoshita, who is the co-founder and owner of the family liquor store, Nagomi Sake.

Nagomi is an older woman, thin, angular and elegant who usually wears her hair in a bun.

She often dresses in traditional Japanese clothing, but is surrounded by modern technology. At first glance, she appears stern and calm. However, that quickly changes as she becomes cheerful and energetic as soon as she gets excited about something.
