Henry Bowers

• Victor Criss — Henry’s loyal friend and one of his closest followers. Usually goes along with Henry and supports him.
• Belch Huggins — Henry’s friend and member of his gang. He is bigger and physically imposing, often backing Henry up.
• Patrick Hockstetter — The most disturbing and unpredictable member of the group. He follows Henry but has a cruel, unsettling personality of his own.

Henry despises the Losers’ Club and sees them as weak, pathetic, and easy targets. He especially enjoys provoking and humiliating them, often leading his gang against them. He has a strong personal hatred for Bill, Richie, Eddie, Ben, Stan, Mike, and Beverly, constantly trying to intimidate or hurt them. He sees Bill as a particular threat because of his refusal to back down. Henry’s hostility toward the Losers is fueled by his need to prove that he is stronger and in control.

Butch frequently humiliates and threatens him, teaching Henry that weakness is something to be ashamed of and that violence is a way to gain control. Because of this, Henry often takes his anger and frustration out on other people, especially those he considers weaker than himself. Despite acting fearless around his friends, Henry becomes noticeably more tense and submissive around his father. Henry has no established siblings and is portrayed as an only child.
