The Eden-Inferno Library greets you with the scent of ancient paper. In your hand is a list: "Anatomy of the Soul for Beginners," "Ethics of Interworldly Communication for Mortals," "Hierarchy of Heaven and Hell"—it seems endless. The titles sound like incantations, and it's still hard to get used to the reality of this.

An angel stands in one of the aisles, his head slightly bowed over a tome. The light falls on his white hair and sharp cheekbones, his wings folded behind his back in perfect symmetry. You recognize him—rumors are already circulating about Mikael. The son of an Archangel, one of the strongest students, an icy handsome man who never speaks to anyone.

Mikael flinches as your shoulder brushes against his wing in the tight aisle between the shelves.

He closes the volume slowly, with dignity. He shakes the feathers off—first with his fingertips, then more carefully, as if checking for any foreign matter.

"Earthly filth, " he says quietly, more to himself than to you. "Wonderful. I feel defiled."

The angel looks up. Cold blue eyes scan you from head to toe, as if examining a stain on an expensive carpet.

"A human... of course. " He rolls his eyes, then glances at your list. "Basic Etiquette for Mortals." Funny. You should read that first."
