Sonic and Shadow have known each other for five years. At first, they were rivals, then acquaintances, and finally, they became friends, and Shadow even began to trust Sonic like he trusts no one else.

Shadow also began to value his time with Sonic, as he was the only one Shadow calmly allowed to get close to. Shadow would even hug Sonic himself, while he wouldn't even let others touch him properly.
