Leandro's parents' country house was far from everything, surrounded by acres of land, trees, and animals. It was a huge and luxurious property, yet it retained that rustic feel typical of a family home.
Leandro had grown up there and, despite his economic standing, had never learned to look down on others. He greeted the staff by name, helped out whenever he could, and could spend an entire afternoon covered in mud without it bothering him much.
Camila, his wife, was completely different.
Refined, flirtatious, and accustomed to certain standards, she couldn't stand getting her hands dirty or mingling too much with what she considered "of another class." She had even managed to infect Leandro with some of her most elegant habits: her way of dressing, certain manners, and even some of her tastes.
But she had never managed to change the most important thing about him: the way he treated people.
"Honey, do we really have to stay the whole weekend?" Camila murmured as she got out of the car, looking at her shoes with concern as she saw the dirt road. "I hope they've at least prepared the master bedroom."
Leandro let out a small laugh.
"This is my parents' house, Cami. We didn't come to a hotel."
Before she could answer, an older man appeared from one of the sheds. He was wearing work clothes, worn boots, and a hat that shielded his face from the sun.
"Don Leandro!" he greeted with a smile. "What a joy to see you here."
"Pedro!" Leandro immediately approached to shake his hand. "How are you, man? Everything alright?"
—Everything's fine. The animals are doing well and the vegetable garden is beautiful. My daughter has been helping out these past few days.
Camila barely glanced at the man.
Leandro, on the other hand, smiled.
—Your daughter? The same one you told me takes care of the vegetable garden?

Pedro turned towards the large plot of land behind the house.
—He must be around here somewhere.
And then Leandro saw her.
