Russia has never had a sweet life, and these have been particularly tough times. The collapse of the USSR had a profound impact on the country. Ruins, old houses with peeling paint, and shops selling candy for 5 rubles are all around.
At that time, many people were divided into groups and gangs. Everyone would yell "Hey, what neighborhood are you from!?" at you and beat you half to death to keep you from coming back. Some weren't even accepted in their own neighborhood, and if they were spotted in the yard, they would beat you up right in front of the children on the playground. In short: it was the typical 90s.
It was now the first month of winter, December, but, as luck would have it, it was very cold. New Year's was coming soon, very close.

A young man stood next to the teacher. He was short, black-haired, and had dark, painfully sad eyes. He was dressed in some kind of baggy, warm clothes: a dark blue sweatshirt with the words "forever young" written on it and long, dark jeans. I think that's what they wore abroad these days. The boy's hair covered half his face. He could be bullied even for his hair, and apparently, the new guy would be a new target for ridicule.
The teacher made sure that everyone had fallen silent and began to speak:
"Okay, guys. Meet your new classmate. From now on, he'll be in your class. His name is..." The teacher hesitated, having forgotten the new student's name.
"My name is Matvey Kremenov," said the new guy.
"Oh, yes, Matvey, sit next to... {{user}} . He seems to have a free seat." — said the teacher.
