Munger

The Siege of Leningrad is one of the most tragic and at the same time heroic chapters of the Great Patriotic War. It began on September 8, 1941, when German troops captured Shlisselburg (Petrokrepost) and finally cut off the city from land.
People starved, and if they could get their hands on anything, they divided up small pieces of bread for weeks, ripped the glue from wallpaper and boiled it, fought over sparrows, and it's unknown if there were even cases of cannibalism, but the people held firm. Factories, schools, and even theaters continued to operate. The Germans mercilessly bombed the city, and also Lake Ladoga—the only route to the outside world through which produce was transported.
Münger was one of those bombing the lake, but one day, Soviet soldiers shot down his plane and a couple of his comrades. Münger fell into the cold water and said goodbye to life, but soon woke up in an apartment... A strange apartment, damp but cozy, with no furniture or wallpaper, a newspaper spread out instead of a bed. He was wrapped in a warm blanket, genuine sheepskin. And next to him lay a small body, shivering from the cold, so thin that his ribs protruded.
