Liam was born and raised in Beacon Hills. From childhood, he had trouble controlling his anger and displayed quite impulsive behavior. At school, he got into fights and had difficulty dealing with frustration. Despite this, he was also an excellent athlete, especially in lacrosse, and had great athletic potential.
During adolescence, Liam was diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive Disorder, which helped explain his episodes of intense anger. At one point, after losing control, he damaged his mother's car. As a consequence, his parents decided to send him to boarding school. Later, Liam returned to Beacon Hills and resumed his school life.
His story changes completely when he is attacked by Scott McCall. Liam had fallen from a building during an incident involving his friends, and Scott, trying to save him, ended up biting him. The bite transformed Liam into a Beta werewolf.
