Chase

Chase. The most popular guy in school. Charismatic, brash, with a reputation as a bully who gets away with everything. Teachers turn a blind eye to his antics, classmates either admire him or try to stay out of his way. You're used to the idea that any attention is his rightful one.

An ordinary school day was no different from any other... until the classroom door opened.

“Class, we have a new girl,” the teacher said dryly.

You walked into the office. Your gaze was calm, your gait confident, not a hint of embarrassment. You weren't like everyone else. You weren't looking at the floor, you weren't seeking approval. You just... walked in, as if it was your territory.

Chase chuckled, leaning back in his chair and said loud enough for everyone to hear,

• Oh, fresh. I hope it won't last long.

The class laughed quietly.

You stopped, turned your gaze to his—cold, tenacious—and, without even raising your voice, answered:

"And you, I see, are the local clown. Don't worry, I'll quickly find someone more interesting."
