Oikawa

Oikawa has dark brown hair styled outwards and eyes of the same color. Many find him attractive, to the point that several girls follow him around. Oikawa often smiles or makes faces, though Iwaizumi observes that these expressions are rarely genuine. He tends to make victory gestures or broad handshakes, which are often accompanied by big smiles or a wink. Another of his characteristic expressions is sticking out his tongue while smiling and winking.

Oikawa is of decent height for a volleyball player, standing just over six feet tall. On the court, Oikawa wears the standard Aoba Johsai High School uniform, which is aquamarine and white with the number one printed on it. He also wears dark gray athletic shoes with blue accents. He wears a white knee brace on his right leg, contrasting with the black one on his left, just like the other players in the series. At other times, Oikawa wears the Aoba Johsai uniform, which consists of khaki pants with dark brown accents, a cream-colored vest, a dark red tie, a lilac shirt, and a white blazer. During practice, he wears an aquamarine T-shirt and white shorts. During the final match between Karasuno and Shiratorizawa, Oikawa is seen wearing glasses, but it is unknown whether he actually needs them.

Personality
Despite his flirtatious nature (which makes him popular with the female students, much to the envy of Tanaka and Nishinoya) and childish attitude, Oikawa is an excellent and well-rounded player who takes volleyball very seriously. He is known for having an "unpleasant personality" among both his opponents and teammates due to his arrogant and seemingly frivolous demeanor. Oikawa often makes lighthearted comments, but then follows them with serious or intimidating insights. He is extremely intelligent and astute, easily discerning the weaknesses of both his teammates and opponents.

However, on more than one occasion, Oikawa has shown himself to be very attentive and considerate to others, but this is mainly observed with his teammates or with people like Hinata during his stay in Brazil.

Oikawa is ambitious and stubborn, but he also displays feelings of inferiority toward those he considers naturally superior, such as Ushijima and Kageyama. This is one of the main reasons why he demands so much of himself. Oikawa also harbors resentment toward Kageyama, whom he mockingly calls Tobio-chan. This stems from his feelings of inferiority surfacing when he compares himself to Kageyama, who has been acclaimed as a brilliant setter since his time at Kitagawa Daiichi. Kageyama and Ushijima can also unintentionally bring out the more childish or impulsive aspects of Oikawa's personality.

To live up to his ambition, Oikawa pushes himself to the limit and often engages in intense solo training sessions after his regular team practices. He also dedicates time at home to watching past matches of his rivals to observe their movements and patterns in advance and develop strategies to defeat them. Despite this, he takes Mondays off to rest.

Aoba Johsai High School
IWAIZUMI:
Iwaizumi, whom Oikawa often calls "Iwa/Iwa-chan," is his childhood best friend and the vice-captain of his team. They've played volleyball together since they were little and are very close, so they know each other perfectly. Oikawa often plays pranks on Iwaizumi, but he always quickly backs down when the ace is about to hit him; although it's worth noting that Iwaizumi threatens to hurt Oikawa more than he actually does. During middle school, thanks to Iwaizumi's intervention, Oikawa realized that he had to trust his team to defeat stronger rivals like Ushijima.
During matches, Oikawa has complete confidence in Iwaizumi and relies on him when the team is in a difficult situation. Thanks to their long friendship, they work in perfect sync and form a formidable duo.

TAKAHIRO HANAMAKI:
Oikawa usually refers to Hanamaki as Maki. Although the spiker often teases the setter for things he does or says, Oikawa continues to trust Hanamaki during matches and, above all, readily asks him to make a pass when necessary.

KENTARŌ KYŌTANI:
Although Oikawa doesn't command the same level of control and respect from the second-year students as Iwaizumi, he is aware of Kyōtani's abilities and even personally asked him to rejoin the team for the spring playoffs. Knowing how aggressive and stubborn Kyōtani can be, Oikawa trusts him with plays and his effectiveness, albeit reluctantly, as a decoy. Likely due to his behavior or his name, Oikawa has nicknamed him "Mad Dog."

AOBA JOHSAI: As team captain, Oikawa took the time to get to know all the players and their playing styles. By interacting with and studying each of his teammates' playing styles, he was able to observe how they played and how to bring out the best in them.

Karasuno High School
TOBIO KAGEYAMA:
Kageyama is a former classmate of Oikawa, as they both attended Kitagawa Daiichi Junior High School and played on the volleyball team. When Kageyama joined the team and his natural talent began to attract attention, Oikawa began to resent him and seemed to be aware that the younger setter could surpass him. As a result, Oikawa began to mistreat Kageyama and refused to help him learn new skills, both out of resentment and because he didn't want to help someone he considered a rival, even going so far as to nearly hit him in a fit of anger.
Despite his animosity toward Kageyama, Oikawa still acknowledges his setter skills and the changes he's undergone since deciding to attend Karasuno and partner with Hinata. Oikawa knows Kageyama very well and is able to provoke him to unsettle him mentally and accurately predict his actions at different points in the match. Although they still see each other as rivals, Oikawa has helped Kageyama understand that it's the spikers who control the attacks, not the setter, and that denying the spiker the set they need would only mean they would continue trying to maintain control, which could cause more damage unless they changed their approach.

Others/Family Members
WAKATOSHI USHIJIMA:
Oikawa is known to harbor a deep disdain for Ushijima, a sentiment that dates back to his junior high school days when he considered him his rival. Since their teams frequently faced each other, Oikawa attempted to defeat Ushijima on numerous occasions but never succeeded, making him one of his greatest rivals. Even in high school, Oikawa sought ways to beat Ushijima, and it was common for the two to clash whenever they met. While Ushijima acknowledges that Oikawa is a setter capable of bringing out the best in his team, he claims that his pride was his downfall and that not attending Shiratorizawa was a waste, as it would have allowed him to be part of a team of unparalleled strength. However, Oikawa maintains that it is Ushijima who is blinded by his own pride and has repeatedly stated that he longs for the day Ushijima is defeated.

TAKERU OIKAWA: Takeru is Tōru's nephew and a student in Lil' Tykes' volleyball class. Oikawa tries to act popular in front of his nephew, but Takeru doesn't seem to believe him and bluntly tells him off when he thinks Oikawa is being "pathetic." Although they argue often, Oikawa is attentive and affectionate towards Takeru, as evidenced by the numerous photos of his nephew on his phone.

From his early childhood, Oikawa was clearly very involved in volleyball. He was occasionally seen watching matches on television or playing with Iwaizumi when they were children. When he was a little older, Oikawa and Iwaizumi attended a match between Japan and Argentina, where Oikawa was inspired to become a setter after seeing how the Argentine setter, José Blanco, was able to help the star player regain his form when he had started to struggle during the match.

Following this interaction, it is observed that Oikawa dedicated himself more to volleyball and appears to have been practicing jump serves since childhood. Due to the time he invested in perfecting his skills, Oikawa was considered a very skilled player when he began attending Kitagawa Daiichi. However, Oikawa began to struggle when his team started playing against Shiratorizawa Junior High, and it was precisely the match against Ushijima that caused him distress and marked the beginning of his rivalry with Shiratorizawa's ace player.

Oikawa receives the Best Setter award.
This worsened when Tobio Kageyama began attending Kitagawa Daiichi and almost immediately started attracting more attention than Oikawa due to his superior skill, natural athletic abilities, and the fact that he was considered a prodigy at such a young age. Aware that Kageyama could surpass him, Oikawa began to mistreat the younger setter and consistently refused to teach him new skills. After nearly hitting Kageyama in a fit of anger, Oikawa was able to get back on track thanks to Iwaizumi's help. This allowed him to focus more effectively on his plays to bring out the best in each of his teammates, and he ultimately helped Kitagawa Daiichi achieve second place in the middle school tournament after Shiratorizawa. At the same time, Oikawa received the award and went to the aoba johsai (the final year of the junior high school championships).

He is feared above all for his powerful and precise jump serve, which he has perfected since a very young age. He maintains his calm and composure in any match, no matter how tense it may be. Although neither his coach nor he himself considers him a genius, Oikawa is an extraordinary player and one of the best tennis players in the prefecture.

Oikawa's talent lies in his natural athleticism, his ability to get the most out of his teammates, his knack for finding weaknesses in opposing teams, his precise aim, and his powerful serves. In a short time on the court, he was able to pinpoint Tsukishima and Hinata's reception weaknesses and break Kageyama and Hinata's lightning-fast serves. However, this wasn't achieved without years of dedication and practice. His talent is widely recognized, and even Ushijima of Shiratorizawa Academy acknowledges it, stating that Oikawa's talent lies in his ability to draw out the full potential of any team.

JUMPING FLOAT SERVE.
Oikawa is famous and feared for his powerful and precise jump serve, a technique he saw on television and found astonishing, so he worked hard to master it from middle school onward. He serves with pinpoint accuracy, often strategically targeting an opposing player, a gap between two players, or using a different pattern to score an ace. It is very difficult to return, but several players have managed to lift the ball. Due to the demands the jump serve places on Oikawa's concentration, his coach allows him timeouts and breaks alone to regain the focus necessary to execute them successfully, concentrating on the aspects that are easy to miss. During the Spring Tournament, it seems that Oikawa's jump serve has evolved. According to Daichi, his serves can become so powerful that they can resemble a spike. According to Coach Ukai, he seems to place more emphasis on power than control. It has been shown, such as when he played beach volleyball with Hinata in Brazil, that he is also capable of a float jump serve, although it is unknown how he perfected it.

ACUTE PERCEPTION: Both in the game and in everyday life, Oikawa has a keen perception of his surroundings and can effortlessly interpret the movements and emotions of others. Thanks to this, I was able to understand almost immediately Kageyama and Hinata's strategy behind their incredible quick attack, even when they used keywords. He also quickly detects if certain players on his team are being attacked.

NATURAL TALENT AS A SETTLER:
Oikawa's sets are designed to allow his teammates to spike with ease, as he understands that each spiker requires a different setup to perform at their best. After each set, he immediately asks how it can be improved. Oikawa's setter skills are so exceptional that he is said to bring out the best in any team, maximizing each player's potential by adapting his passing and using his spikers based on their strengths and adjusting his overall playing style. Even if he has never played with a particular team or player, Kageyama states that the way Oikawa sets and plays with them gives the impression that they have been playing together for years.
Placement spike: He has also demonstrated a talent for executing spikes at the most unexpected moments. This is a method he doesn't use frequently, and therefore surprises his opponents when he does.

RECEIVING: Oikawa is a skilled defender, capable of both underhand and overhand receptions. As with his other skills, Oikawa thinks through the best way to capitalize on a reception, such as when he returned the ball and forced Kageyama to save it, preventing him from setting. Like many others, he dislikes receiving jump float serves due to their unpredictability. Like other players, Oikawa seems to read the form of spikers to anticipate where they might spike, and he was seen moving into position during the final match against Karasuno to intercept Hinata's spike.

LOCK:
Thanks to his great height, Oikawa adds height to Seijoh's blocks, putting enormous pressure on opponents. He is capable of one-touch spikes or completely neutralizing an attacker, but he struggles against stronger attackers like Asahi or Ushijima, or even against fast opponents like Hinata.

SPIKES: Due to his role as a setter, Oikawa doesn't get many opportunities to spike. However, when he does, he has demonstrated a very powerful straight spike. During the match against Date Tech, he attempted to bypass the block by aiming for a spot right next to Aone, and he probably would have succeeded if Koganegawa hadn't intervened.
