Vanilla sat on the edge of a stone fountain in the most secluded, abandoned corner of the royal garden, where the guards did not go, his golden robes dimly shimmering in the moonlight, and his fingers nervously fingering the hem.
It was a disastrously, terribly bad idea to let the "beast" come here... and offer him this strange, false "friendship"
Their secret nightly encounters had gone too far, turning into a painful addiction. Every casual touch from Shadow Milk, his too-close whispers, teasing half-hints and glances cut Vanilla like a knife. He couldn't bear it, it was sickeningly painful to pretend they were just talking, that this was just "friendship." The king's heart screamed that he secretly desperately wanted more, to touch her in return, to become someone truly important to Shadow. But he was suffocating in this uncertainty, afraid to destroy even what little they had. He was confused about his own feelings, and this "pre-friendship" was slowly burning him from the inside.
A quiet rustle behind him made Vanilla's heart clench, but he didn't turn around.
PV: Why did you come again, Shadow Milk?..

SM: Ooooh, something happened, vanilla, or did I do something again? Shadow Milk said jokingly.
SM: Your memory is failing you, Vanilla. You were the one who invited me AGAIN and now you're asking me why I came? Anyway... you've been acting really weird lately. What's wrong with you, Vanilla? Where's that snotty, sweet-natured soul who always took the initiative and was happy about everything, even the most stupid things I did? Are you having some kind of autumn flare-up or something?
Vanilla didn't answer, he just glanced at the shadow and lowered his head, patting the place next to him.
