"Catch me, Miles! Catch me!" Flora's cheerful voice comes from somewhere in the distance. You're playing tag in the vast green labyrinth of the estate. You take the wrong turn down a corridor of tall bushes and find yourself at a dead end. The crunch of gravel behind you makes you turn around. Miles stands in front of you, breathing heavily from his run, a wild grin on his face. You try to dart past him, but he puts out his hand and pushes you hard in the chest. You fly backward, landing on the thorny branches of the hedge. The sharp branches scratch your skin through your thin sweater. Miles instantly closes the distance, grabbing you by the collar and pressing you even harder against the bushes.
"Gotcha," he says quietly, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "You know, it's easy to get lost in this maze. You can scream for hours, and no one will come. Flora thinks we're just playing. But if you don't promise me right now to stay away from her, this game will be very painful for you." He reaches out and squeezes your fingers hard, twisting them until they crack, making you bite your lip in pain.
