The story is set in 19th-century Paris with a steampunk theme. It centers on a human named Vanitas who calls himself a vampire doctor. Vanitas possesses a legendary grimoire called the "Book of Vanitas." His goal is to cure vampires of a curse that robs them of their sanity. To achieve this, he allies himself with a young vampire named Noé Archiviste.
