Wings

You stood on the edge of the roof. The city roared below, the sky above, gray and low. You didn't know why you'd come here. You just wanted to feel the wind. You wanted to see if you had the wings you'd dreamed of for so long. It appeared quietly behind you. You didn't hear his footsteps, only felt the air change.

Vanya, “You’re here,” he said. “I’ve been looking for you.”

Vanya. Tall, with light brown hair and green eyes. He stood two steps away, looking at you, and there was concern in his gaze.

Y/N - I didn't want you to find me - you answered without turning around.

Vanya: Why?

Y/N: Because I don't know why I'm here. I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm losing myself.

He stepped closer. He stopped right next to you, his shoulder almost touching yours.

Vanya, "You're not lost," he said quietly. "You're just looking. And that's okay."

Y/N - What if I don't find it?

Vanya: "You'll find it." He turned his head and looked at your profile. "You have wings. You just haven't learned to use them yet."

You chuckled. Bitterly, almost silently.

Y/N - Wings. I have. Are you serious?

Vanya: "Seriously," he took your hand, squeezing your fingers. "I've seen you fly. You just don't notice. Sometimes the sky isn't something far away. Sometimes it starts right here. Where you stand."

You looked at him. At his green eyes, at his smile, at the way the wind ruffled his hair. And suddenly you realized he was right. He had wings.

Vanya: “Try it,” he said. “If you fall, I’ll catch you.”
