At the christening of the newborn Princess Aurora, announced by the herald, the Three Good Fairies come to the castle and bestow three gifts upon the child. Before Merryweather has a chance to give the child a final gift, Maleficent appears with Diablo perched on her staff.
"Well, a brilliant meeting, King Stefan. Royalty, nobility, the lesser nobility, and..."
Maleficent laughs at the three fairies standing near the baby's crib.
"How picturesque, even the rabble."
The Goons
The Goons are a simple race of dwarf-like, orc-like creatures (many of them resembling different animals, such as pigs, vultures, and lizards) who serve as Maleficent's henchmen.
Background story
Although her magic isn't strong enough to undo Maleficent's curse, Primavera uses her gift to soften it, so that Aurora doesn't die, but falls into a deep sleep that can only be broken by true love's kiss. Still fearing Maleficent's curse, Stefan orders all the spinning wheels in the kingdom to be burned. Knowing that Maleficent will still try to fulfill the curse at any cost, the fairy godmothers take Aurora away from the castle, to a secluded cabin in the middle of the forest, where they decide to raise the child as their own daughter until her sixteenth birthday, when the curse expires.
Upon discovering that Aurora has disappeared from her parents' castle, Maleficent sends her henchmen to scour the entire kingdom in search of the princess. Years pass, but the search proves fruitless, much to Maleficent's growing frustration, giving the kingdom hope that her curse will not be fulfilled. Shortly before Aurora's sixteenth birthday, Maleficent discovers that her henchmen have spent nearly sixteen years searching for a baby instead of a young adult. Furious, she violently attacks them before sending Diablo to find the princess. On Aurora's sixteenth birthday, Diablo accidentally discovers the cottage as Flora and Merryweather are dueling with magic wands while preparing gifts for the princess. He overhears Aurora telling the fairies about a young man she met in the forest and fell in love with that very day. The fairies reveal the truth about her royal lineage and say they must return her to the castle that very night. Diablo flies back to Maleficent to inform her of what he overheard in the cabin, and with this knowledge, she plans her next move.

curiosities
After failing to kill Aurora's mother, Maleficent curses Aurora, condemning her to a deep sleep. This unintentionally allows Aurora to escape the Dark Curse. Maleficent further curses Prince Phillip, Aurora's true love, transforming him into a beast and exiling him. Despite the protection of the three fairy godmothers, Maleficent persistently searches for Aurora for over sixteen years to ensure her curse takes effect.
Maleficent harbors resentment towards King Stefan due to his betrayal. They were childhood friends, and the bond between them evolved into a romantic relationship. Stefan's boundless ambition led to Maleficent's victimization, transforming her into a villain. His relentless quest to destroy her intensified her hatred. The death of Queen Leah, during Stefan's obsessive pursuit to kill Maleficent, may have amplified her hostility.
Maleficent's transformation into a dragon represents her formidable power and sinister presence. Her attire, including a horned headdress and a bat-like cloak, foreshadows this form. As a dragon, she is a colossal and terrifying creature, inspiring fear in Prince Phillip and the fairies. Her shapeshifting ability, which includes this dragon form, is a testament to her magical prowess and manipulative nature.
.
In honor of the birth of their long-awaited daughter, Aurora, King Stefan and Queen Leah organize a grand celebration throughout the kingdom and arrange a christening, to which they invite the Three Fairy Godmothers, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, so that they may bestow magical gifts upon the child. Shortly before Merryweather delivers the last gift to the princess, Maleficent arrives at the castle accompanied by her pet raven, Diablo. She claims to be offended at not having received an invitation to the christening and casts a powerful curse upon Aurora, predicting that, before sunset on her sixteenth birthday, the princess will prick her finger on a spinning wheel spindle and die. Stefan orders his guards to capture Maleficent, but before they can, she leaves the castle, disappearing amidst the green flames. Knowing that Maleficent will still try to fulfill the curse at any cost, the fairy godmothers take Aurora away from the castle, to a secluded cabin in the middle of the forest, where they decide to raise the child as their own daughter until her sixteenth birthday, when the curse expires.
powers and abilities
Maleficent is one of the most powerful villains. She describes her own abilities as "all the powers of hell." Her powers are based on magic, and during the christening ceremony, it is implied that her magic was far more powerful than that of the Three Good Fairies, at least individually, since they admitted they could not completely remove Maleficent's curse, but rather alter it. Using her staff, she can conjure spells such as lightning projection, divination, and teleportation. Spring also hinted that she was able to control the weather, such as ice storms. She can even cast powerful dark magic spells, such as her forest of thorns. She was capable of hypnosis, as demonstrated on Aurora, making her prick her finger. She also conjured the spinning wheel and spindle, which she used to prick Aurora's finger, demonstrating her conjuring ability.
She also hinted that the effects of the sleeping curse, even when not at its full potency, were enough to effectively halt aging while the curse was active. Maleficent was also capable of flight by conjuring energy from her staff, similar to a galaxy or a helicopter propeller. It is presumed that she used this ability in an act of desperation, considering the events that led her to use it. She also demonstrates particular skill in pyrokinesis spells, as her teleportation sometimes involves flames, such as during the christening ceremony and shortly before confronting Prince Phillip for the last time. Her flames, always emerald green, are extremely hot, like a sun, strong enough to melt the castle's bridge, made of sturdy stone bricks.
She also possessed a certain degree of divination and telepathy.
Molds
Maleficent is capable of transforming into numerous forms at will, including a floating, hypnotic light resembling a will-o'-the-wisp, and a massive, fire-breathing dragon. As a dragon, she can stand upright and is predominantly black, with the lower part of her body, from just below her jaw to the tip of her tail, being purple and ribbed. Maleficent possesses webbed fins under her horns and yellowish-green eyes without pupils, while her tongue and the inside of her mouth are yellow. Her claws and sharp teeth are also black, and she has spines up to 2.4 meters long along her back and a 4-meter neck, some of which form the tip of a three-pronged tail. Maleficent's dragon wings are quite small compared to her overall size, though they still seem to allow her to fly to some extent. She breathes the same yellowish-green flames in which she appears and disappears. It measures approximately 32.6 meters in total length, from the tip of its jaws to the tip of its tail, not counting the various spines at the end. Its mouth alone is about 1.8 meters long. Its horns are 1.6 meters long. It stands 7.6 meters tall at the hips and 7 meters tall at the shoulders; its wings are also about 7 meters long. Its teeth are about 20 centimeters long and its claws reach 80 centimeters in length. It has approximately 30 short tons (27.2 metric tons) of mass.
Appearance
Maleficent is a tall, slender woman with pale green skin, a thin face, and a prominent chin. She has yellow eyes and large black horns, which symbolize her nature as an agent of evil forces. Maleficent's signature attire consists of a black and purple cloak with bat-wing-shaped sleeves bordered in flames and a long tail; beneath the cloak, she wears a magenta dress with long sleeves. She also wears a gold ring with a large, round black stone and carries a scepter with a bright yellowish-green sphere at the tip.
.
Maleficent has a soft, refined, and elegant voice, and there are two possible motivations for her crimes: either pride, considering she curses Aurora because Stefan didn't invite her to the christening, or simply because she is a monster who takes pleasure in being evil. This latter hypothesis is reinforced by the fact that she admits she isn't offended by Aurora not being invited before cursing her.
Fauna indicated that Maleficent had no knowledge of love, kindness, or the joy that comes from helping others. However, her subsequent capture of Prince Phillip, her taunts of Phillip about his role in undoing the curse, and later, her attempts to prevent him from reaching the castle, suggest that she knew enough about love to realize that it represented a great threat to her curse on Aurora.
.
Besides her cunning, Maleficent is extremely deceitful in her personality. But beneath the mask of stoicism, she unleashes all her fury with a smile, demonstrating how she delights in the pain of others. This is evident in her first appearance, during Aurora's birthday party. When Primavera categorically states, "You weren't welcome," Maleficent feigns shock and hurt, commenting, "In that case, I'd better leave." But then she turns and casts a curse on Aurora, laughing as she savors the sweet revenge she has achieved. Due to her deceitful personality, she also displays sarcasm, which is especially evident during the psychological torture of Prince Phillip, where Maleficent claims that when he departs, he will be "on his noble steed, upright and proud," despite the vision making it clear that he and his horse barely escaped because they were on the verge of death.
.
Maleficent represents evil in its purest form. She is ruthless, dark, cunning, and will do whatever it takes to achieve her evil goals. Furthermore, she is extremely sinister, which is evident when she taunts Prince Phillip after capturing him. Her most famous line ("Poor naive fools. Thinking they could defeat me. ME! The mistress of all evil!") indicates that she considers herself superior to all, even going so far as to call her closest allies "my pets" in a pseudo-affectionate way. She also seems to harbor a particular hatred for Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, her benevolent rivals. Besides herself, the only entity for whom she shows genuine affection is her pet raven, Diablo. This is especially evident in her horror at seeing Diablo turned to stone, as well as in the scene where she pets him. Maleficent also demonstrates a certain emotional instability. This is especially evident in her reaction to discovering that her henchmen had spent the previous sixteen years searching for a baby, when she had an almost truly evil fit of laughter before reacting violently against them. She also demonstrates being very sadistic, which is particularly clear when she psychologically tortures Prince Philip simply for fun.
