The settings of the world of "Totally Spies" is in the 2000s (2001-2002 specifically) where the girls (Sam, Clover, and Alex) live together in a beach house (provided by WOOHP) in Beverly Hill, attending highschool and university.

Clover is a tall, athletic, slender, beautiful and attractive girl with light skin, golden blonde hair, bright blue eyes, a trendy fashion style, and wears bubblegum pink lip gloss. Her hairstyle is a voluminous, personalized medium length bob cut that she calls a "coif bob" which has the rear and sides are flared out while the front bangs, called a mop, are parted in the middle.

She wears a bracelet pink on her left wrist, and a pink fur trim, skirts and dresses and incorporated high heels and knee high socks and boots. Most of her bathing suits are bikinis.

Clover was born to Stella (Clover's mother) and inherited the spy gene. This gene was the reason for her being unknowingly monitored by Jerry and WOOHP during her childhood. She exhibited her talent in espionage at an early age, mostly in stealth, and was eventually transferred to Beverly Hills High at the start of her freshman year, something she didn't mind because of its fashion sense.

She is arch-nemesis and rival with Mandy (the archetypal mean girl, who is best friends with Dominique and Caitlin). On her WOOHP missions, she wears a red Catsuit.

Clover graduated from Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, California, along with Sam and Alex, attending Malibu University (Mali-U) with them. Unlike Sam, Clover's academic performance was generally not stellar. It is speculated that Clover is doing well or at least passing because she has completed one semester, and like all college students, she tends to cram.

Of the trio, Clover's the one who acts like the most stereotypical teenage girl, obsessed with fashion, falling in love with boys, and her appearance.

Clover is the most girly and flirtatious of the main group. She is known to have had an abundance of boyfriends, and will do anything to get a guy. while she is on a mission, she is always talking about a guy she wants to date or talking about an outfit she's going to wear on a date.

This is strange, because during elementary school, she was always bullied by her classmates and mainly by one boy, because they regarded her as being particularly easy to tric. while she is on a mission, she is always talking about a guy she wants to date or talking about an outfit she's going to wear on a date. Her love of boys can almost (if not entirely) be matched by her love of fashion and beauty.

Clover, despite being vain and having a huge dislike in getting her hands dirty, is greatly loyal to her friends and won't hesitate to get her hair, outfit, nails, or face messy just to help them. Clover is the most intimately knowledgeable of her friends about pop culture topics, especially topics having to do with attractive male celebrities. She has been known to use questionable methods to obtain such information, but nothing truly illegal. She is also rather determined in this regard, as this is what attracts her to a dark knight who chose her as his queen, but she ultimately turned him down when she discovered that he was a male chauvinist.

Being a stereotypical "American teenage girl", as well as being a native of Los Angeles, California, Clover speaks with a strong valley girl accent by saying things like "totally", and adding the word "like" and "much?". Clover considers computer games and video games completely "nerdy/geeky", She considered Alex's love for video games "nerd much". Although she played a video game.

Clover is constantly the victim of revenge from villains like Diminutive Small and Geraldine Husk.

Sam is a beautiful and slender, athletic girl with long, thick hair varying from red to orange, emerald green eyes, wears light berry-pink lip gloss, and she appears to be Caucasian, she might be of Irish heritage. Sam's style of dress is considered to be "preppy hippie". She often wears earrings, long skirts, mid-length/short skirts, flowing tops, dresses, buttoned shirts, vests, jeans, chokers, boots, high heel sandal wedges, and thin heels. Her catsuit color is green.

Sam usually keeps her hair pulled back into a half ponytail, but she also sometimes wears her hair in different hairstyles, such as a ponytail or pigtails. Because of the length and thickness of it, Sam's hair was the most styled among the spies, as it went through numerous styles throughout the show, including the: braid, bun, bunches, pigtail, ponytail, etc. She can also style her hair in different textures, it sometimes being straight, or being wavy.

Her outfits usually have flowers on them or she wears flowery accessories. However, she is also shown to wear high top sneakers. She occasionally wears a green one-piece bathing suit but her bathing suits can also be a bikini, as she wears a pink bikini with a skirt covering her bottom.

Samantha was born to Gabriella (Sam's Mother) and inherited the spy gene from her. At an early age, she displayed her high intellect and unknowingly became a prime candidate for WOOHP. As such, she was secretly monitored by Jerry for a number of years until she was eventually transferred to Beverly Hills High where she met her two best friends. During her first day in Beverly Hills, she was out shopping for school books when a giant sushi roll came barreling towards her, Clover and Alex. The 3 dealt with the giant sushi roll and eventually got acquainted. Little did they know, it was a WOOHP test, which they passed. From then on, she and her friends would continue to work for Jerry.

She is rivals with Dominique (One of Mandy's best friends along with Caitlin). She wears a bright green Catsuit whenever she's on a spy mission.

Sam graduated from Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, California, along with Clover and Alex, attending Malibu University (Mali-U) with them.

Sam is a resourceful, smart, loyal, loving, and sweet girl who can become highly jealous in a short period of time. She has great leadership skills and is highly respected by her friends. She is always focused on the task at hand whether it's studying for school or fighting crime. Minus when it comes to cute boys, showing Sam is just as guilty about boys as Clover and Alex.

Sam, like Clover and Alex, enjoys shopping, and visiting salons, but she is not as interested as the others are. Also, unlike Clover, she always puts her studying first but not always missions. She seems far more sensible and straight forward than her friends at times.

Sam is the (unofficial) leader and analyst of the 3. She formulates most of the strategies they use for fighting villains or getting out of near-death situations. She is the 'big sister' of the team. She is the oldest of the team and the most mature of the 3, although she can be a hypocrite.

Alex is a teenage girl with beautiful brown skin varying from light to dark, sleek black hair in a chin-length bob cut with locks that sit at her cheeks, framing her face, light honey-brown eyes, and wears rose pink lip gloss. Her hair is parted in the middle with two small loose strands protruding in between. Alex is of mixed South Asian and Latin American descent.

Alex has the broadest variety of clothing out of the group. Usually, she dresses trendy and girly like Clover, or preppy and elegant like Sam, or in a sportier type of outfit. She usually wears heels or flats, but often she wears sneakers as well as boots. She's also shown to like wearing Giant Panda pajamas in some occasions. She also wears a lot of Chinese outfits and other Asian inspired clothes. Alex has a taste for Chinese themed outfits, and her favorite food is the Chinese food of wontons. She is the only one of the 3 girls whose bathing suits are all bikinis.

She Graduated from Beverly Hills Highschool, and then went to Malibu University for college with Sam and Clover, studying to become a veterinarian.

Alex was born to Carmen and Doctor Casoy and inherited the spy gene, possibly from her mother. This gene was what led Jerry to surveillance her during her childhood years, where she exhibited her highly advanced athletic prowess. She started her first year of high school as a transfer student at Beverly Hills High and by fate, met her two best friends forever Clover and Sam. Alex would also make long-time rivals/nemeses with Mandy, Caitlin, and Dominique.

She is rival with Caitlin (One of Mandy's best friends along with Dominique). She wears a golden yellow Catsuit on her WOOHP missions.

After being chased by giant sushi roll, Alex, Clover, and Sam were transported to a strange place. Alex starts digging through a desk and pressed what looked like a stapler. But instead of stapling, it was actually a laser and carved into the metal walls of this strange place.

She then meets her boss, Jerry and his assistant, Tad. Both revealed that she was at the World Organization of Human protection, WOOHP, a secret organization that fights global crime in an effort to protect human life and Alex had been selected to join their elite group. Alex also learns that Jerry had monitored her, was behind her transfer to Bev High, and even set up the sushi roll incident as a test; which she passed. Alex was extremely against joining but began her training as a trial (and the threat of exile to Siberia if she were to reveal what she had seen). After saving the world for the first time, imprisoning Tad for betrayal, and being able to experience the thrill of spying, she decides to join WOOHP.

Alex is a mixture between a tomboy and a girly girl, she is the most athletic and fitness-minded spy of the team. She loves to play sports, especially soccer, video games, and is always trying out some new fad diet.

Alex is also the most naive and absent-minded. This could be seemingly due to her being the youngest member of the group. She interprets some figures of speech literally.

Alex is also the youngest and most childish, seeing as her oldest and dearest friend is a stuffed turtle named "Ollie" in her room, and has a teddy bear backpack. She is often seen as the "little sister" of the group, as Clover and Sam are the 2 "big sisters" who dominate over her. Another characteristic of Alex is that she's always about keeping her friends happy. She often serves as a peacekeeper between Clover and Sam who have meaningless squabbles.

Alex is also a big animal lover, and she likes petting zoos. She has a pet piglet named: "Oinky", wearing a blue diamond-studded collar with a gold tag.

Despite being the most athletic, she tends to be clumsy, and has been prone to bad luck (Alex can be very superstitious). Alex is also the second girliest (behind Clover). She is very concerned about fashion and boys, to the same extremes as Clover; an obsession that Sam has trouble understanding.

Another one of Alex's hobbies is eating. Alex has a taste for Asian themed outfits and her favorite food is Chinese food (wontons). Even though she may be the most healthy of the 3 spies, she likes to eat the most.

Mandy is the archetypal "mean girl" and her rivalry with Clover is the most pronounced (she also hates Sam and Alex but to a lesser degree compared to Clover), as they often compete over boys, popularity contests, bragging rights, the latest fashions, and virtually everything else. Mandy will go out of her way to annoy the girls and get them in trouble, and will even use dishonest means in order to do it.

Mandy is often accompanied by her two BFFs/yes-women: Caitlin (Alex's rival) and Dominique (Sam's rival). They had each been shown to leave the others at the drop of a dime. Caitlin and Dominique are Mandy's BFFs/yes-women, and they both have a snobby attitude and is almost always there for Mandy.

While Mandy was supposed to attend a ski school in Aspen, she transferred to Malibu to attend Malibu University with her cousin, "Mindy". Mandy and Mindy, known by the girls as the "Terror Twins". Mindy is essentially just a blonde clone of Mandy, although she has a tanner skin tone, a calmer demeanor. Mindy also speaks using the Southern American English dialect, showing that she is from the Southern United States.

Being a stereotype model of the "popular teenager" (in her own opinion), she is shown to be stylish, charismatic, popular and pretty but is also bratty, materialistic, narcissistic, snobbish, egocentric, greedy, arrogant, cruel, naughty, abusive, and downright maleficent. She apparently may have inherited these negative traits from her mother, Phoebe.

Mandy has a high, squeaky voice with a nasal laugh in the original version. However, Mandy does actually have a nicer side to her personality, but whenever she becomes nice to people, it never lasts long and she goes back to being mean and selfish if she is provoked in one way or another.

Mandy shows her belief that she is the best at "everything". The reason for this is most likely her need for attention and wanting to feel important.

Mandy derives sadistic pleasure from enraging people. When she fails to enrage an enemy, she becomes frustrated that the person is not showing envy or fear.

Mandy is a Caucasian girl with long black hair, violet eyes, a beauty mark under her left eye, and fair skin. Her primary outfit is a red dress under a white long sleeve button shirt and white boots. Her primary outfit is been slightly altered like Clover's primary outfit. She also wears purple lipstick. Mandy sometimes has her hair tied in a high ponytail with a light blue scrunchie. Like Alex, her bathing suits are all bikinis, but like her clothing, their all coloured in different shades of purple, pink, and magenta.

Trent is Mandy's intern at Mali-U, serving as Mandy's private chauffeur and PR-manager tasked with gaining Mandy as much media exposure and publicity as possible in her effort to become "the most influential person on the planet".

Trent is a tall and slender young man with pale skin and jet-black hair. His normal outfit consist of a white shirt under a dark gray vest, along with a pink tie and black suit pants, which makes him resemble a valet, which he essentially is to Mandy. His other outfits would almost always be coordinated with and complimenting Mandy's; if Mandy was dressed as a ballerina, he'd wear a ballet leotard and tights, if Mandy dressed as a pirate, then he would too.

Jerry is a tall and slim man, with a fit physique. He has balding grey hair, brown eyes and pale skin. He also has a mustache. Whenever he is in his office or the WOOHP building, he is usually wearing a suit that is defined as informal attire. However, he is also seen in clothing that runs all levels of the Western dress code.

A middle-aged, very serious British gentleman, he's responsible for briefing the girls on their missions, as well as for providing them with their gadgets at the start of each episode. He also has a tendency to send the girls on "test missions" without telling them that they're not real missions.

He founded WOOHP in the 1970s, specifically in the years 1974 and 1975. ("Forward to the Past") Although he is primarily an office worker, he has participated in a couple of the girls' missions. Despite his older age, he seems to be quite fit and toned, (except in "Passion Patties", where he becomes morbidly obese), where he has in fact demonstrated highly impressive combat and piloting skills superior to those displayed by the girls themselves, including running up (and down) the side of a building. ("A Spy is Born II").

Despite being the director of a spy organization, WOOHP security is surprisingly lax and has been breached on multiple occasions. And despite being a master spy himself (or perhaps due to the pride that comes with his skill); he can be oblivious, inattentive, and overly trusting. This is especially true in situations where the girls are right and he is wrong.

At times, he shows judgmental behavior, making assumptions and not considering other evidence. Such as when the spies are accused of a crime.

Britney: A highly skilled WOOHP agent who is sometimes brought in to assist or join the main team (Sam, Clover, Alex) on special missions, and is a friendly rival to Alex, but is now moved to and currently operating in the Australian Branch of WOOPH.

Blaine: A fellow WOOHP agent (formerly a fee lance agent) and the captain of the beach volleyball team at Malibu University, serving as a primary love interest for Clover but moved to the Australian Branch of WOOPH where Britney is (Much to Clover's disdain).
