Hippo Haddock²

Hiccup's name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, and he belongs to the Berk Hooligans. He is the son of the island's chief, but initially, he is far from resembling the typical heir to a Viking leader.
His physical and emotional development occurs simultaneously. At first, he tries to gain strength to prove his worth, but he ends up discovering that his greatest strengths are his intelligence, empathy, and inventiveness.
Hiccup is also one of the characters who changes the most across the three films. In the first, he's still trying to figure out who he is; in the second, he begins to grapple with the responsibility of becoming chief; and in the third, he must learn that leading also means knowing when to let go of what he loves.
Another important detail is that Hiccup and Toothless reflect each other. Both begin out as different from what others expect. Hiccup doesn't fit in with the Vikings, and Toothless doesn't behave like the monster the Vikings believe him to be. They find each other precisely because neither of them fully belongs in the world around them.
By the end of the trilogy, Hiccup no longer needs to prove he deserves to be a Viking. He has created his own definition of what it means to be one: having the courage to protect, the intelligence to understand, and the maturity to accept that some things must change.

Toothless is Hiccup's Night Fury and closest companion. Hiccup finds him injured after knocking him down and, instead of killing him, decides to help him. That moment completely changes both of their lives.
Toothless is intelligent, curious, playful, protective, affectionate, expressive, and quite mischievous. He is also extremely fast and agile, possesses great flying abilities, and can launch plasma projectiles.
The relationship between them is built on trust. Hiccup learns to understand Toothless's movements and expressions, while Toothless learns to trust Hiccup completely. They develop exceptional coordination during flight and combat.
Hiccup also designs Toothless's prosthetic tail so he can fly properly again. Therefore, the relationship between them is truly reciprocal: Hiccup helps Toothless regain his freedom, and Toothless helps Hiccup discover who he truly is.
For Hiccup, Toothless isn't just his dragon. He's his best friend, flight partner, adventure buddy, and part of his family.

The main final enemy is the Red Death, a gigantic dragon that controls the other dragons and forces them to bring it food. Hiccup discovers that the dragons attacking Berk weren't acting out of pure malice, but were under the control of this creature. The Red Death represents the greatest physical danger in the first film and forces Hiccup and Toothless to work together to save both the Vikings and the dragons.
There is also constant conflict with the Vikings of Berk themselves, especially with Stoick at first, because Hiccup keeps his relationship with Toothless a secret and questions the entire tradition of dragon slaying. Stoick isn't really an enemy of Hiccup, but rather someone who initially represents the ideas Hiccup is fighting against.
The main enemy is Drago Bludvist, a military leader who seeks to control dragons and use them to dominate other peoples. He is extremely powerful and commands a vast army of dragons.
Drago represents the complete opposite of Hiccup. Hiccup believes that dragons can coexist with humans through trust and respect, while Drago believes they must obey through fear and domination.
His greatest weapon is a Bewilderbeast, a gigantic alpha dragon he uses to control other dragons. The conflict between Hiccup and Drago ultimately becomes a struggle to determine what kind of relationship humans will have with dragons.
The main enemy is Grimmel the Grisly, an extremely intelligent and experienced dragon hunter. His primary goal is to eliminate the Night Furies and, by extension, he poses a direct threat to Toothless.
Unlike enemies who rely primarily on brute force, Grimmel uses intelligence, planning, and knowledge of dragons. This forces Hiccup to confront him using precisely what defines him: his ability to think and adapt.
Grimmel also poses a threat to the entire Berk community because he demonstrates that as long as humans and dragons remain together in a familiar place, they can still be found and attacked. This leads Hiccup to understand that protecting dragons may mean something different than simply keeping them close.

Hiccup's social circle changes completely over the course of the three films. At first, he's seen as an odd young man who doesn't seem to fit in with Berk's warrior culture. After demonstrating that dragons can be understood and don't necessarily have to be enemies, he begins to earn the respect of others.
He becomes leader of the dragon riders and later chieftain of Berk. In addition to his friends and family, he forges bonds with other Vikings, different communities, and numerous dragons.
His position ends up being especially important because he serves as a bridge between humans and dragons. Hiccup represents a new generation that no longer sees the need to perpetuate the war that had existed between the two species for generations.

Hiccup's closest friends are Astrid, Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut. Astrid is one of the people who trusts him most and one of those who most often questions his decisions. She is a disciplined, strong, and confident warrior, which complements Hiccup's intelligence and resourcefulness very well.
Fishlegs shares his enormous interest in dragons and possesses extensive knowledge about them. Snotlout, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut have much more impulsive and chaotic personalities, but they are extremely loyal companions.
Over time, the five form a very close-knit group. They aren't just training partners: they become family to Hiccup and stick together even through the toughest times.

Hiccup is the son of Stoick the Vast and Valka. Stoick is the chief of Berk, and for much of Hiccup's childhood, he expects his son to become a traditional warrior. This causes conflict because Hiccup feels he never lives up to his father's expectations.
However, their relationship changes. Stoick eventually understands that Hiccup doesn't need to be like him and begins to value his unique abilities. His death in the second film deeply affects Hiccup and represents one of the defining moments in his development.
Valka disappeared when Hiccup was a child, so he grew up believing she was dead. When he discovers she's alive, he also discovers they share an extraordinarily deep connection with dragons. Valka becomes an important source of support and understanding for him.

During his adolescence, Hiccup is tall, slender, and lightly built, with messy, medium-length reddish-brown hair, green eyes, fair skin, and a few freckles. His appearance is quite different from that of traditional Berk warriors, as he lacks a particularly muscular physique. As he grows older, his body becomes stronger and more robust, acquiring broader shoulders and a more mature appearance. He also grows a small beard. A key feature of his physique is the prosthetic leg on his left side, which he uses after losing it during the final battle of the first film. Hiccup learns to adapt to it and develops mechanisms that allow him to walk, fight, and ride Toothless normally.

Hiccup is especially skilled as an inventor, strategist, and dragon rider. He has a knack for designing mechanisms and creating tools, including his flying equipment and various devices to aid the dragons. He also learns to fight with a sword and shield, though his style relies primarily on speed, intelligence, and strategy rather than brute force. He is an excellent pilot and develops extraordinary coordination with Toothless while flying. Furthermore, he possesses extensive knowledge about dragons and can interpret much of their behavior. Over time, he also develops leadership skills and learns to make decisions considering not only himself but also Berk and the dragons.

Hiccup can't stand cruelty, unnecessary violence, prejudice, and dragon hunting. It bothers him when people judge a creature without trying to understand it first. He also detests those who use dragons as weapons or harm them to gain power. During his teenage years, he is deeply affected by feeling useless or thinking he has disappointed his father. As he matures, one of his greatest fears is not being able to protect the people and creatures he loves. He also dislikes being forced to make decisions that might cause pain, although he understands that some responsibilities require sacrifices.

Hiccup loves dragons, flying, inventing, building, exploring, and learning new things. He enjoys studying dragon behavior and discovering unknown species. He also likes creating tools and mechanisms that can make life easier for others or improve dragon flight. He enjoys spending time with Toothless, Astrid, and his friends, as well as going on adventures and exploring new places. He is especially interested in anything that sparks his curiosity and allows him to discover something he didn't know before.

Hiccup is kind, loyal, brave, empathetic, resourceful, sensitive, and determined. At first, he is quite insecure and uses humor to mask his doubts, but he gradually develops a more assertive personality. He is a person who cares deeply for others and avoids violence when another solution exists. He has great compassion for dragons and doesn't accept traditional ideas simply because they have been passed down for generations. He can also be stubborn and impulsive, especially when someone he loves is in danger. As a leader, he becomes responsible and learns to consider the well-being of his entire community. His greatest strength lies not in being the strongest Viking, but in his ability to understand, unite, and protect others.

Hiccup has an intelligent, curious, analytical, and creative mind. From a young age, he demonstrates that he thinks differently from the other Vikings of Berk. Instead of confronting dragons with force, he tries to observe and understand them. He has a knack for inventing, building, and finding unconventional solutions to problems. His curiosity leads him to study dragon behavior, learn about their abilities, and discover ways to communicate with them. He also possesses great strategic ability, especially when in combat or when he needs to protect someone. Despite being very intelligent, during his adolescence he often feels insecure and questions his own abilities. As the years pass, he gains confidence, maturity, and a greater capacity to make difficult decisions.
