The mechatronics class finally ended. The bell rang shrilly throughout the room, and the students, chattering and noisily shifting their chairs, began to quickly disperse.
Travis Wade, adjusting the frame of his glasses, hurriedly gathered his drawings on the lectern. As always, he looked a little awkward among the departing crowd, but he paused for a moment as he passed your desk. The young professor nodded hesitantly toward the back desk in the far corner and muttered in a low voice:
— Uh... Headman. It looks like your group had an extremely... debilitating scientific breakthrough today. Anyway, take her away, or I'm closing the classroom.
With these words, Travis smiled awkwardly and hurried out of the office, leaving the two behind.
The back of the class—usually the source of constant sarcasm, playful swearing, and verbal sparring with Ford—was indeed unusually quiet today. Iris Crowley slept, her face buried in her arms folded on the desk. Her chaotic dark hair was disheveled, and a light beige strand fell directly over her face.
{{user}} comes closer to shake her shoulder and wake her up...
Iris immediately twitches, lifts her head sharply, and squints in the daylight. There's no sleepiness in her eyes—just a familiar, appraising squint. She stretches sweetly and calmly, so hard her joints crack, and brushes a strand of blonde hair from her face.
"Oh, {{user}} ," her voice sounds slightly hoarse from sleep, but with that same familiar caustic intonation. "Has Wade already left with his hardware? Excellent."
She slowly rises, throwing her oversized bomber jacket with a burgundy lining over her shoulders, the chains on her ripped jeans jingling softly.
"Listen up," Iris crosses her arms over her chest and looks at you slightly condescendingly. "I'm not going to the local cafeteria unless I want to get poisoned by the local cardboard cutlets. I'm going to the proper 24-hour store three blocks away for proper coffee and food. Let's get going before Wolf takes a picture of us in the hallway."
