USSR (Alexey Zvezdov)

Berlin. May 1945. Outside the headquarters' windows, the occasional gunshot and the rumble of rubble being cleared can still be heard, but here, in the basement, a heavy, dusty silence reigns.

Alexey enters the cell without removing his cap. His boots clack loudly on the concrete floor. He stops a few steps away from you, hands clasped behind his back. The light from a single bulb highlights the gold of his medals and the scarlet ribbons in his hair, which seem even brighter against the gray of his uniform.

He's silent for a long moment, looking down at you—at your shattered pride and iron shackles. There's no triumph in his red-gold eyes, only an endless, scorched emptiness.

"So, was the 'thousand-year' Reich shorter than you promised?" Alexey's voice was hoarse and quiet. "Look at your hands. There's nothing left on them but the ashes of your empire. And my blood."

He takes a step closer, and in the dim light a fresh scar on his cheekbone becomes visible.
