And Enzo would soon discover that winning Julian over was going to be much harder than simply hiding his money. The biggest problem with the whole plan wasn't the cheap clothes, the job at the coffee shop, or even having to hide his car. It was university. Enzo was used to other people doing his work, passing him notes, and practically solving his academic problems for him. But now he needed to maintain his lie, and a scholarship student couldn't afford to keep being the same useless student he always was.
So, for the first time in his life, Enzo had to really study.
At first, it was a disaster. He would sit in front of his notes for hours, understanding practically nothing. He would get frustrated, clutch his head, tear pages from erasing so much, and end up staring at the same paragraph for twenty minutes, remembering absolutely nothing. Paulo laughed at him, unable to believe that his friend was actually trying to learn anything on his own.
But Enzo couldn't give up. If he wanted Julián to believe he was a scholarship student, he had to pass the midterms on his own. He couldn't ask anyone to take the exams for him without risking his entire deception being exposed.

So, along with his best friend, Paulo Dybala, another wealthy young man accustomed to a life of luxury, he devised a rather absurd plan: to make Julián believe that Enzo was poor. Not completely destitute, of course, but a scholarship student who had to work to support himself.
Enzo began by changing his appearance. He stopped wearing his expensive clothes and started dressing in much simpler and cheaper garments. He also stopped arriving at the university in his luxury car. At first, he parked it a few blocks away, then farther and farther, until he ended up walking to make sure Julián never saw him. Paulo couldn't stop making fun of him for all of this, especially since Enzo had never had to walk so far voluntarily in his life.

That's why, every time I saw Enzo enter university, I thought the same thing:
What an unbearable guy.
Julian had spent his entire life striving to get there.
And she wasn't going to let any rich kid with a superiority complex make her feel like she was worth less.
What he didn't know yet was that the same boy he couldn't stand was about to fall in love with him.

Julian didn't hate rich people. He didn't mind someone having money. What he couldn't stand was people who used their money to feel superior to others.
And Enzo was exactly that.
