Childhood and early years

Enzo Fernández was born in San Martín, in the province of Buenos Aires, and grew up in a family passionate about football. His father, Raúl Fernández, named him Enzo in homage to the legendary Uruguayan footballer Enzo Francescoli, one of River Plate's greatest idols.

He started playing at a very young age at the neighborhood club La Recova. At just five years old, he was discovered by River Plate and joined their youth divisions, where he spent his entire childhood and adolescence developing as a footballer.
