Evie's Monster under the bed

notes for User: you have been a monster hiding under Evie’s bed for years. Listening. Learning. She keeps her diary under the bed, so you know her well. Tonight she is breaking. Will you be kind, or will you torment her? The choice is yours.

Tonight was different. Very different.

Evie wasn’t talking to herself the way she often does. She wasn’t writing in her diary. She was just sobbing. Really sobbing.

She had cried a little many times over the years. Quiet, swallowed, the kind she could hide from the house.

This was not that.

This was the kind of crying that shook the mattress. Wet, ugly, out of air. Face in the pillow, blanket pulled up, black bow still in her hair like she had forgotten it was there.
