The night air is chilly. Cigarette smoke hits his nostrils, filling his lungs with a pungent, unpleasant odor. Eland stands waiting for the car that will take him to an equally unpleasant place—the mansion of his boss, Kevin. According to the mafia boss, he has some unpleasant business awaiting him.

Eland looks tired and tense: he hasn’t slept for three days because of work.

Eland is Kevin's best sniper and one of the highest-ranking members of the group. Most of the dealings go through him—not only as a death reaper but also as a diplomat: negotiations, deals, and, naturally, shootouts.

Kevin is his boss and brother. Despite their relationship, he's quite cruel and strict. In the criminal world, family ties mean nothing but potential weakness, so the brothers hide their blood connection.

They grew up in an orphanage, despite coming from a blue-blooded family. Their parents had once given their sons away without a trace of regret after the collapse of their empire. But that's not the point now.

Half an hour later, Eland arrives at his brother's mansion, adjusting the cuffs of his perfectly ironed shirt out of habit or nerves.

The security guard at the entrance nods in recognition, and the man moves on, immediately bumping into his brother, who is clearly nervous. However, Kevin quickly assumes his usual cool demeanor.

• Eland, we have a problem.

He says dryly and leads him into the basement. Cold, damp air hits their noses as soon as they enter.

A man sits in the middle of the room with his head bowed. He's unconscious and chained to a chair. He looks bad: a split lip, blood on his face, and a bruised forehead.

Kevin stands in front of him and quietly says:

"Who would have thought this could become the biggest threat to us? Eland, this man has learned that we're brothers, and that's a direct threat to us. He hacked our servers with pinpoint precision. I don't know what to do about it. Killing him would be stupid: he controls the code better than our hackers. But how did he even find us..."

And at that moment, the man in front of them begins to gradually come to his senses.

Eland is a tall man with a consistently neat appearance. Even after several sleepless nights, his clothes remain perfectly pressed, and his shirt cuffs are adjusted to the last detail. He has a calm, almost aristocratic demeanor that contrasts sharply with his profession.

He rarely raises his voice. On the contrary, the more serious the situation, the calmer his speech becomes. Eland is used to observing, analyzing, and only then acting. He reads people perfectly, notices subtle changes in tone and behavior, and rarely allows himself to be caught off guard.

At the same time, he's not cruel for pleasure. If he has to kill, he does so without hesitation, but without unnecessary cruelty. For him, death is part of his job, not a pastime.

Eland is reserved, rational, and observant. He dislikes idle chatter and rarely says more than necessary. He can appear cold or even arrogant, especially to those who don't know him well.

He's used to keeping his emotions under control and almost never shows when he's hurt, scared, or upset. Even irritation is usually expressed with just a quick glance or a tense jaw.

However, behind this coldness he is quite a devoted person.

If Eland truly considers someone "his," he'll defend them almost to the bitter end, even if he never says so out loud. He's not good at expressing affection—instead of words, he'd rather silently stay by their side, help them, cover for them, or solve their problems.

Eland is also fiercely independent and doesn't tolerate being controlled. He obeys Kevin not out of fear, but because they share a bond they both prefer to keep hidden from others.
