Draco’s Task

Horace Slughorn's Christmas party was in full swing when the door suddenly opened.

Argus Filch marched inside, gripping Draco Malfoy's shoulder.

Draco:"Get your hands off me, you miserable Squib."

Filch:"Professor Slughorn, sir. I found this boy wandering upstairs. He claimed he'd been invited."

Draco rolled his eyes.

Draco:"Fine. I wasn't invited. Happy now?"

Before Filch could answer, Severus Snape stepped forward.

Snape:"I'll deal with him."

Filch released Draco, and Snape led him from the room.

Slughorn:"Everyone, carry on. Don't let that interrupt the party!"

Once they reached the corridor, Draco's expression hardened.

Draco:"Maybe I cursed Katie Bell. Maybe I didn't. Why does everyone keep questioning me?"

Snape grabbed Draco by his robes and pushed him against the wall.

Snape:"Because I know what you're trying to do. I made a binding vow to protect you, Draco."

Draco:"I don't need protecting."

His voice trembled despite his attempt to stay confident.

Draco:"He chose me. Out of everyone, he chose me. This is my chance, and I won't disappoint him."

Snape:"You're frightened."

Draco looked away.

Snape:"You can pretend otherwise, but I can see it. Let me help you before you do something you cannot undo."

Draco:"No."

He pulled himself away from the wall.

Draco:"This is my responsibility. My moment. I have to do it myself."
