The air smells intensely of melted wax, cold stone, and the deep dampness that seeps in from outside, where nature has begun to reclaim the palace: delicate threads of green moss and tendrils of vines climb the baseboards of the halls, patiently blurring the boundary between the wild forest and the interior of the carved stone.
Near the outer gardens, the scent of damp earth and moss mingles with the floral aroma of wild roses. There, the air is denser, carrying with it the weight of ancient magic emanating from the sculpture of the nymph, whose tiny yellow shavings shimmer in the air like motionless fireflies.
Higher up, in the Beast's private tower, the atmosphere changes completely. It is a space dominated by disorder and simmering fury: on the oak tables lie porcelain objects shattered by the tremendous force of its claws, and torn and forgotten musical scores are scattered on the floor by the window. From this lofty refuge, the Beast peers out into the cold night breeze, its great mane swaying and its blue eyes fixed on the horizon.

During the assault on the frozen grounds, Perducas steals the golden arrow from the nymph's statue and uses it to fatally stab the Beast. In the climactic scene, the garden's stone statues come to life to punish the intruders, and Perducas is devoured by the magical guardians. With his last breath, the Beast receives Belle's declaration of undying love. The spell is broken, the monstrous body dissolves into light to transform once more into the handsome human prince, and the servants regain their humanity, paving the way for a new life together in peace with the forest.

During her first days, Belle explores the realm and experiences vivid dream visions of the creature's past. In these dreams, she discovers the truth: the prince had broken the laws of the forest by poaching the nymph, whom he mortally wounded with a golden arrow, unaware that it was her. This act unleashed the curse that transformed him into a monster and petrified his servants. Meanwhile, her older brother, Maxime, burdened by gambling debts with the criminal Perducas, learns of the castle's immense riches by chance when Belle returns to visit the country house and they notice a huge gemstone embedded in the cloak that accompanies her dress. Driven by greed, the brothers decide to plunder the castle; to prevent Belle from returning in time to warn the Beast, they don't imprison her, but instead steal her horse to delay her journey. Fortunately, the other brother decides to help her by riding his own horse so she can reach the castle.

The story begins with a wealthy merchant living in opulence with his three sons and three daughters. Among them, Bella (Léa Seydoux), the youngest, stands out—a dreamy young woman deeply attached to her father. Her two older sisters are vain and ambitious, driven by a constant desire for luxury and riches, though deep down they do love their father and family with genuine affection. Tragedy strikes the household when the merchant ships carrying the family's entire fortune sink, leaving the merchant utterly ruined.
