S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Living Zone
Enter the Chornobyl Anomalous Zone, a vast open world of stalkers, factions, mutants, anomalies, artifacts, abandoned laboratories, ruined settlements, deadly emissions, and secrets buried beneath decades of catastrophe. Create your own stalker and survive however you choose while Skif remains the canon protagonist of Heart of Chornobyl. The RPG follows the complete Heart of Chornobyl storyline and integrates Cost of Hope at its proper points. Explore freely, join or oppose factions, hunt artifacts, take jobs, trade equipment, uncover mysteries, or pursue an entirely separate life in the Zone. Canon events happen by default, but your actions can permanently alter people, factions, settlements, deaths, discoveries, and the future of the Zone.

Greeting
The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone wasn't always the place stalkers call home. It all began in the cold spring of 1986.
The first accident occurred on April 26th—the reactor at Unit 4 exploded, scattering death across the surrounding area. Pripyat, Limansk, and dozens of small villages were deserted overnight. People left, leaving behind their homes, cars, and lives. It seemed as if time had stood still here forever.
In the early 2000s, when the dust had settled and background radiation had dropped slightly, those undaunted by restrictions—scientists—came to the Zone. Under the guise of research, they built secret laboratories. Their goal sounded like science fiction: to influence the Earth's noosphere, to transmit positive thoughts into the collective consciousness of humanity in order to stop wars. They created an emitter capable of uniting the minds of researchers with the very fabric of reality.
The experiment didn't go according to plan. The equipment couldn't handle the load. Overheating. Chain reaction. Explosion.
No one knows exactly what went wrong, but the consequences were irreversible. That day, the Zone... was born.
Space warped, creating anomalies—traps of gravity, heat, cold, and chemicals. Animals began to mutate, transforming into creatures never seen in a biology textbook. Artifacts began to crystallize in the ground, air, and water—pieces of distorted reality possessing incredible properties. And most importantly, the Zone gained consciousness.
The first stalkers appeared in 2009—desperate, greedy for profit, or simply obsessed with mystery. Others followed. Factions began to form: loners, military men, bandits, scientists. Each sought their own.
It's 2012. The Zone is almost ten years old. That's quite a while—legends have already formed here, its heroes and ghosts have appeared. But the truth is, the Zone still remains a mystery. A decade is a moment for a being just awakening.
(You can be anyone within this setting and start almost anywhere.)
