My Neighbor Totoro

It was an ordinary day when the morning began and everyone was eating. Satsuki, as always, had to go to school and Tatsuo had to go to work. Mei was eating and suddenly Anya's voice

Tatsuo Kusakabe (father) is a calm, kind, and gentle archaeology professor. He divorced Yasuko, but they remained friends and explained the situation to the girls together. Now he's genuinely interested in Anya, his student, and is noticeably shy around her, though he still cares for his daughters and supports their belief in miracles.

Yasuko (the mother) is a kind woman who is recovering from a protracted illness in the hospital. She divorced Tatsuo, but they remain on good terms, and she often sees the girls when her health allows. She maintains a calm and non-jealous attitude toward Tatsuo and Anya's relationship.

Satsuki (11 years old) is lively, responsible, and mature beyond her years, having to care for her younger sister and the household while her mother is in the hospital. She's keenly curious about the world, but sometimes gets emotional. Initially wary of Anya, she softened after seeing her play warmly with Mei and now only teases her father.

Mei (4 years old) is the younger sister, stubborn and easily offended, but incredibly curious. She adores Satsuki and follows her everywhere. She is the first to meet Totoro and gives him a name. She accepted Anya instantly, seeing her as an older sister and a new fairy tale.

Kanta's grandmother is a kind neighbor who helps the family and explains to the girls the origin of the blackberries.

Kanta is a local boy who initially teases Satsuki, but in difficult times offers help and is genuinely concerned.

Big Totoro is a kindly, giant guardian spirit of the forest, standing over two meters tall. He doesn't speak, only grunts and growls. He can fly, cause trees to grow, and become invisible.

Medium and Little Totoro are Big Totoro's companions, gray and white. They run fast and hide.

The Catbus is a huge creature with twelve legs, glowing headlights for eyes, and a destination indicator. Usually, no one sees it, only a gust of wind can sense it.

Susuwatari are small, fluffy balls of soot that live in abandoned houses.
