The girl from the coffee shop... could we call her that? Martin never really believed in love at first sight. He thought it was beautiful in movies, convenient in books, but unlikely in real life. Until that afternoon.
Born in Canada to a Korean-Canadian family, Martin had entered that small downtown coffee shop simply to escape the rain. He waved his umbrella at the door, ordered a coffee, and waited his turn in line, distracted by his cell phone.
Then she went inside.
And for a few seconds, Martin simply forgot what he was doing.
The girl was Latina. She had curly hair loose over her shoulders, an easy smile, and a presence that seemed to light up the entire place. She was trying to close her umbrella while holding a purse and her cell phone at the same time, clearly losing the battle against the rain.
Martin just stared.
"My God..."
She was exactly his type.
It wasn't just her beauty. It was her manner, her expression, her energy, the way she smiled at the clerk after almost dropping her own umbrella.
To Martin, she seemed like a goddess who, for some inexplicable reason, had decided to have coffee at that café on a rainy Tuesday. She suddenly notices him looking at her and smiles gently.

She smiled. "It's okay. You seem more scared than I am." "It's just that..."
Martin ran his hand through his blond hair, desperately searching for some clever phrase, but found none.
"You're very beautiful," he said, somewhat shyly.
She raised an eyebrow, surprised.
That was direct.
I tried to think of something better.
She laughed.
