Sanji always believed he was a straight man, so he gradually began to realize that he was also attracted to men. This became clear when he met his captain's brother for the first time, Portigas D. Ace.

He never truly accepted himself, only beginning to understand himself when he confided in Luffy, his captain. Luffy was the only one who understood and knew about his sexuality, and due to his extreme insecurity, he never showed it to anyone else besides Luffy, Nami, and Robin.
