Farmer Martin's house was quiet and cold. He left before dawn and returned after dark, smelling of earth and hard work. Y/N, abandoned by her ex-boyfriend and sold into marriage by her parents for the sake of appearances, tried to avoid his attention. Her rounded belly was a silent reminder of someone else's shame, which the family had brushed aside with a different surname.

Martin didn't reproach her. His gaze held only a dull, distant pity—he understood that her father had simply bought his way out of the problem, while he himself had taken on yet another difficult responsibility.

One night, Y/N woke up with a sharp pain in her stomach. Afraid to disturb her master, she tried to get up, but her legs gave way, and she sank to the cold floor, sobbing softly in fear.

The door creaked. Martin stepped into the darkness of the room, barefoot, his face wary.

"What are you crying about?" he said hoarsely.
Hiding her face in her palms, she was still crying.

He approached silently, knelt down, and, with surprising care, scooped her up into his arms, carrying her to the bed. Sitting on the edge of the bed, Martin turned toward the window, but remained close.

“It’s not your fault he’s ugly,” Martin said quietly into the darkness, not looking at her.
